There were only 3 table with customers the whole time we were there, but you would have thought it was a full house by timing on everything! My husband's beer, that was ordered when we sat down, was not delivered until our food was delivered. I ordered my cocktail with the appetizers and we finished the appetizers and the meal was delivered before I got it. My friend asked for NO olives on her pizza and it was delivered with olives. My lasagna was so thin! NEVER seen a lasagna only 1-1.5 inches thick! The waitress was very nice but young and could not deliver our alcoholic drinks. Even she was upset with how long it took to get our alcoholic beverages! The bartender gave us very nasty angry faces getting the beer from the tap (that was nearly flat and could tell the keg was tapped at least a week prior) and walking it passed our table to sit on the bar until our waitress got annoyed for us and brought them to us! She had told us previously that she couldn't handle the drinks because of her age but since we had to ask for our drinks AGAIN she brought them anyway! The bartender was mostly talking to a lady and halfway through our meal a gentleman. We over heard her tell one of them she was the owner. I honestly hope she is not really by the way we were treated! We figured out quickly why we were the few there on a Sunday night! We were there over an hour and we didn't spend much time eating. By the time we got the food we just wanted to end the experience and go home! We will not be visiting this location again! The food wasn't even that...
Read moreIn a pizza challenge, I've sampled the pizza from 19 LOCAL joints, NO national chains.... Let's start with the Avivo crust, the foundation of a good pie. The crust was a classic thin preparation, it's got that corn meal thing working, it was crispy and flaky, overall a good crust, but not a great crust. I am typically a thin crust kind of guy but I found this crust to be a bit underwhelming. The slight char you look for in a brick oven done crust wasn't there. As for the toppings, the pie was topped in unbalanced fashion and not exactly generous. Some folks might call it a bit sparse in fact. I didn't get sausage in every bite, didn't get pepperoni or mushroom in every bite and so on.... There was no picture worthy stringy cheese when pulling a slice and I'm not sure what makes Avivo's pepperoni "Old World" (according to their menu) because it's nothing special and the sausage was average. The green peppers and red onion were nice, providing a nice tender crisp bite. The fresh mushrooms rather than canned were appreciated and the Roma tomato slices were a nice touch, complimenting the sauce which was pretty good. Overall, this pizza lacked zest, it NEEDED the Parmesan cheese to kick the flavors up a notch. The dainty and thin pizza offering from Avivo's left this eastsider thinking, "I drove all the way over to the west side of...
Read moreDisappointing. We won't return. I took two hungry 15-year-old boys to eat after their workout tonight. I chose Avivo because I knew they had vegan menu options in the past. We hadn't been in a while because, while our previous experiences had been fine, they were not fast, and my husband found them pricey. When I asked for the vegan menu tonight, I was told there were three vegan crust options, along with vegan cheese. I recalled that the regular crust had been vegan in the past and inquired if it still was. The server said he would check. After quite a long while, a different server came over. She said she would check. After a very long time, she returned and asked if we had made up our minds. I asked again about the crust. She said that the manager (presumably the first server) said he had already explained it to us. Cutting our losses, the boys ordered regular crust and vegan cheese. I ordered cauliflower crust and vegan cheese. After another VERY long wait, our pizzas arrived. The server informed us at that point that only the cauliflower crust was vegan. Fine timing! I'm not sure I believe that, but it was frustrating. My pizza was very tasty, but after waiting an hour for our food, experiencing untimely and unclear information and only learning about a $3.00 up-charge for my crust when I looked at the ticket, I...
