I donât normally write reviews, and typically I like this restaurant. Tonight was an exceptionally bad experience. The wait was normal for a Friday night When checking in with the host, she said it would be appx 30 minutes. She asked if we wanted to wait outside and they would call us because it was crowded. She took down our phone number and we waited in the car. 30 minutes later we went back in and they had past us. She said âwe called and no one answered, we mustâve called the wrong number, let me see if I can squeeze you in.â After being âsqueezed inâ the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink and came back immediately with drinks asking if we were ready to order. After that, the service became very slow/non existent. After the food came out, I noticed the lobster on my baked lobster roll was burnt. When I say it was burnt, I mean you could pick up all of the lobster that sits on top as one big piece. When I brought it to the attention of the staff he said âoh, thatâs how weâve been making it now. We just burn the lobster at the bottom.â I acted very surprised and he responded again and said âthatâs just how we make it now, Iâm sorry if you donât like it. If you want we can remake it, but thatâs just how we do it now.â I said no thanks, I just want to eat the roll at this point. We were there for 2 hours from first check in to leaving. Overall not a great experience, and I thought it to be very bizarre that any restaurant would intentionally burn their food. If I could make a recommendation I would suggest them changing the name of that roll from baked lobster to...
Read moreThe service at Wasabi Sushi Bar West is horrific. I knew that I wouldn't get top-of-the-line service during the 1/2 off special, but I expected decent service one the special was over. Yesterday I dined at Wasabi for lunch on a weekday, and I was seated immediately. I brought with me a few sushi newbies, and the waitress never came to the table once while we were looking at the menus. At Kanai on Maple/119th, the servers check up on you semi-frequently and have extensive knowledge of the sushi. I found that I had to be the one to explain the menu to my friends. For a sushi restaurant in a city like Wichita, it is absolutely necessary to have helpful servers who can decode the terminology of the menu.
The waitress never got my friend's water, forgot to give us chopsticks, and hid from us for the entire meal. I do not expect my server to hover over me, but the forgotten water and chopsticks could have easily been solved if we didn't have to flag her down to get what we needed.
I am fairly forgiving when it comes to good service depending on the quality of my meal, however. Wasabi's sushi is decent, and not a bad choice for the price. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly recommend that you go to Kanai Sushi. It is also on the West side, and the sushi tastes authentic with terrific service. The servers remember who I am and help me pick something new on the menu each time.
In conclusion, for anyone who values service and authenticity, skip...
Read moreNot going with one star because I still have some goodwill for this restaurant due to past visits, but after our trip on 4-9-21 we won't be coming back anytime soon. We arrived at about 5:40 on a Friday night and though the place was somewhat full we did get a table pretty quick. The problem was that none of the servers really seemed interested in helping us as they were absolutely slammed dealing with takeout orders. I ordered a beer and was told that there was not a bartender working and so they couldn't serve me, so I ordered a diet coke. I quickly noticed that two other tables had been served beer so I raised this when the server came back with our drinks and they decided that yes they could serve beer. Which then after a long wait I got the beer I ordered in a bottle without being offered a glass. We could tell that this was just the beginning of what was going to be a bad experience so we decided to just pay for the beer and try our luck somewhere else. I ended up getting charged for the beer and the diet coke I didn't really want and the kids lemonade we ordered but didn't need cause we were leaving. So about 10 bucks for a bottle of Sapporo. I'm not sure if this is the case most nights, but if so they need to come up with a new staffing solution to deal with handling all the takeout orders without putting off their in...
