We've (my wife, 2 daughters and I) have been here twice now. The rice and beans are a taste of home that I've missed. I wish the portion size was a bit bigger though...you know, like mom would serve you. Steak fajitas, didn't arrive sizzling on the skillet like you'd expect but the flavor is descent. If you've had great steak fajitas with a melt in your mouth flavor, keep looking, this isnt it. Tamales, nothing reminiscent of what my tias and women of the family would put together during the holidays...if you know what I'm talking about, then you understand. They are tamales though and will get the job done. The salsa, isn't really a picante salsa but has descent flavor... I usually ask for a couple of side bowls of chopped onion and cilantro, mix it in with some lemon juice and a sprinkle of salt....usually corrects the flavor and texture. Try this, and you won't be disappointed. Now, sopapias... I've grown up with them being made of a whole tortilla, deep fried, sprinkled with sugar, a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center and then drizzled with honey...what I received were 4 quarters of the tortilla, fried and then sprinkled with sugar..nothing else. I had to ask for a separate scoop of ice cream and all they had was chocolate syrup, not honey. I sat there kind of bewildered wondering, who taught them how to make a sopapia? LOL! As far as the enchiladas, my wife ordered the cheese with ranchero sauce but it was served to her with a queso sauce. This was quickly corrected though. The tortillas served with the fajitas could be a little bigger but at this point, it's just a point to note. Take my review/ experience as you will, and please understand, your mileage may vary. Oh, I must state, I am a Mexican who knows authentic food. This place is close enough for...
Read moreI decided to stop in for the first time before a movie and give this place a try. Most of the Mexican restaurants that have been in this location have been pretty good. I usually always try the fajitas for the first time at restaurants I've never been to. I have to say that the service and food was not good at all.
First of all, the complimentary chips and salsa were not good. The sauce looked and tasted like tomato sauce with a little bit of spices in it. The chips were over-fried to a brown color and tasted burnt.
I ordered the shrimp, chicken and beef fajitas with charro beans instead of refried beans and corn tortillas. When the food arrived, the fajitas looked amazing, but I got refried beans and flour tortillas. No biggie. After mentioning the mistake to the server, she brought me the charro beans. I didn't mention anything about the wrong tortillas because I like flour tortillas, too.
The fajitas had absolutely no taste at all. I even had one of my guests give it a try and she said the same thing. The meat was overcooked and very chewy. There was plenty of fajita sauce and vegetables, but they just had no taste. These were probably some of the worst fajitas I've ever had.
Throughout our dinner, the server had forgotten things that were requested. She also messed up my payment and had to redo it. Again, not a real big problem, but the fact that she was very forgetful and careless made it less than a pleasurable experience.
Needless to say, I will not be going back to this restaurant and do not recommend it. There are plenty of other Mexican restaurants in Wichita that are far superior to this one. Especially with the price of food these days, a person really needs to be selective when choosing a...
Read moreFirst time visit. We were seated in a few minutes and liked the atmosphere. Then one person brought chips and another person brought salsa to our table without saying a word. We ordered the guacamole table side. The young lady didn't introduce herself but did a great job serving that. Didn't wait too long on our food brought out by someone other than the waiter that took the order however my wife's order was wrong. Then it came out wrong the second time. A manager stopped by our table and just wanted to know what was going on and said he'd speak to his staff. The 3rd time was finally correct and brought out by another new person. This guy seemed to give a rip and actually stopped by a few minutes later to make sure the food was good this time. The waiter that initially took our order finally came by and blamed the kitchen saying his ticket was changed which we didn't need to hear that. We just want to feel like someone is trying to make things right. It's a shame because the food was excellent so we say thankyou to the cooks who should get 5/5 stars but the service was nearly non-existent 0/5 stars. Nobody introduced themselves and made an effort to make us feel welcome. When we were done we waited for someone to check on us and bring boxes and a ticket. It was 10pm closing time and the place was at about 50% capacity but crawling with workers. We had to get up and get our own boxes and then on our way out got our ticket. We really weren't sure who our waiter was. No consistency. They charged us full price even though we didn't get to eat together. I was done eating before they got her order right. We will...
