Whoa... east-side sleeper alert! DO NOT think of Social Tap only as a 'drinkery'. I have it as an 'eatery-drinkery'. Similarly, DO NOT think of it only as a WSU student spot. I have it as a student and public venue. Very welcoming interior. Large, relaxed, open, and airy with various seating options. Trendy sports bar vibe. The east side offers spacious patio seating, overlooking a placid pond. Great spot to chill. On to the food. You'll probably be greeted with a QR code scan menu and order option. Just tell 'em you're old-school and prefer a menu. No problem. For our starter, we had the Pepperoni Rolls. Served with warm marinera, these marshmallow-soft nuggets of deliciousness are absolutely killer. The combination of flavors; toasty - yet soft and chewy, zesty, and tangy delights are superb, by any standard. Enough for 2-3 diners. For entrees, my wife ordered the Wheatly Burger & fries. Partly placed in n the mood by the Pepperoni Rolls, I went for the Calzone Supreme. First, let's discuss the Wheatly Burger. Proudly served on a potato roll with grilled onions, cheese, lettuce, and pickles, this burger is top flight! No question. Juicy and flavorful. Fries were crispy - perfecto! However, the showstopper was the calzone. Off the chart! Calzones are not commonly seen on Wichita menus. I've had a few here; all were less than noteworthy. But this calzone was my friend, VERY GOOD FRIEND! Check out the attached photo. These dudes are monsters, and OMG tasty - beyond belief. Succulent marinara on the side. Check the attached menu photo for a detailed description. Peppers, sausage, mozzarella, onions, mushrooms, etc. You get the picture. Italians would be proud. Wanted to consume all of it, but it was too much. Box please! I am throwing down a hard recommendation for Wichita's casual diners. Take a little trip to tasty-town. Check out the food at Social Tap, WSU. This place is a sleeper. Definitely on my 'go-back' list. PS - Hat's off to Erik, our server. This cat plays way over the rim, for sure!

My favorite thing about Social Tap is because it’s a “food hall” concept, you can bring in other food than what they sell there (including the restaurants surrounding it or delivery). The pizzas and burgers are good, but if you want/need to eat something else, you can!!!! Fair warning for some of you curmudgeons out there: you’ll need to order using a QR code and the toast website (which lots of restaurants moved to during the pandemic) so don’t get upset because it’s not like the good ole days. Also, everything is “on tap” so don’t expect full bar service, but again that’s not the concept so don’t get bent out of shape because you assumed you knew what you were getting before you walked in the door. Yes they have some TVs, but not everyone always wants to go to a sports bar and have a game on all the tome. So if you want to hang out with friends and have a good time, this is a great option.

When we first entered it was not very busy which was nice. We were told to seat ourselves and that a QR code was how to access the menu. Water was brought to us and we were told to order by using the QR code. Since it was Friday there were drink specials at reasonable prices. The food took a little long to get out considering there were only about 8 people total in the restaurant. The food itself was good. The vodka cherry limeades were great. The strawberry lemonade was an absolute miss don’t recommend. The atmosphere lost points by all the obnoxiously loud people who got seated by us and chairs and tables pushed together. Also the service got rated low because we asked multiple times for ranch and it was forgotten or ignored and we had to wait for a while to see a waiter to get a to go box.

The food was delicious and it's a very cool spot, especially for families. The service, however, was sadly subpar. Everyone was so nice, when they were actually around. Our server didn't inform us we needed to order on the app. Which can safely be assumed nowadays. But for someone who doesn't go out all the time, I'm not used to it. It would've been nice to know after 10+ min of waiting for someone. We eventually ordered an appetizer, a salad with grilled chicken, and the Buffalo chicken sandwich. The Buffalo chicken sandwich came out first and had we waited to eat it for the other food, it would've been cold. Then the salad came, with no bread on the side like it's supposed to, and missing ingredients. It was so packed in the bowl that after 1 bite, it was spilling all over the place (which is a good problem to have) but wasteful. So I patiently waited for over 5 min for someone to walk by until my husband finally started to walk up to ask someone for a plate, bread, and appetizer. The plate came. Then the appetizer. No bread. Not once did anyone check on us and it wasn't until we were about ready to pay and leave did my husband get a refill on his soda. We love supporting local, and luckily it was great food, cool location, and awesome environment. Hopefully next time the service will be a bit...
