We went to Harvest restaurant yesterday after 1.5 years to celebrate my sister in law's birthday. The last time we went there we found the food and service to be just ok. Yesterday, we went there to celebrate my sister in law's birthday and because she had never been eaten at Harvest and wanted to try it. While waiting for them to arrive my husband and I went to the bar for a pre-dinner cocktail. The bartender, Taylor was great and very attentive. This is the only reason why I rated yesterday's experience a 3 start and not a 1 star. Once my sister in law and her husband arrived, we were taken to our table by the manager. Our server Joshua came over to take our drink order. When I saw him and listened to him, I felt a little uneasy but shrugged it off. We all placed our drink order followed by our appetizer and then our main course. First of all, we sat at a table for 4 and not a very big table but the restaurant itself was very open and had no sound buffers so it was extremely loud inside the restaurant. I was sitting next to my sister in law but could not hear what she was saying because of the noise. After our server took our orders my sister in law said, "I wish Joshua would stop wiping his nose over me. I don't anything dropping on my food/" My side salad with the Parmesan vinegarette was delicious but my spouse did not finish his Cesar salad. He said it was not good.
Now came the main course, I ordered the Barbacoa with cilantro lime rice, roasted corn and pickled onion and cilantro. I told Joshua I did not want the pickled onion. When it arrived the onion was in the dish. After Joshua put the dish down in front or me, he realized the onion was on the dish and muttered something under his breath, picked the up the dish and took it back to the kitchen. Then came back out with the dish without the onions. The Barbacoa was very salty. When Joshua saw that I barely touched my dish, he asked me how I liked it and I said the Barbacoa was too salty. He picked up my dish and took it to the kitchen. Then, out comes the manager that originally sat us. He acknowledged that Joshua told him that my food was too salty and asked if he could bring me another dish and I said no.
Next came my sister in laws food. She ordered the Roasted Tenderloin. She ordered her steak medium rare and got it medium. I'm surprised she didn't say anything to Joshua about it but she had to tell us and we saw the steak after she cut in to it.
The next dish was my sister in law's husband's order. He ordered the scallop risotto. He heard him tell Joshua that he did not want the risotto but to substitute the Thai rice instead. When the dish came, it was the scallop risotto. Not Thai rice. He started eating the scallops and we told him not to eat it. Then, he told Joshua that he ordered the Thai rice. So, again, Joshua picked up his dish and took it back to the kitchen a few minutes later came back with Scallops with Thai rice. He took one taste of the rice and he said this is just not good and pushed it away.
Last but not least was my husband's dish. He ordered the stuffed chicken caprese. He took two bites of the chicken and looked at me. He said that the chicken was so dry. He just pushed it away.
BTW, through out all of this, we had to also flag Joshua down to get a refill on our drinks. I had the Arnold Palmer and when I raised my half full glass to him and asked him for a refill, he nodded his head and brought me a glass of water. I had to remind him that I ordered Arnold Palmer. Then, he brought my husband a glass of water. When, he looked at the water, it had a yellowish tint. So, we were not sure what was in it. I don't think we will be coming back to Harvest again or any FMK restaurants. We've always been disappointed with their restaurants. The only time everything was good was when they had Paul the General Manager who went around fixing things that were wrong at FMK. After he left, everything we back to their normal below average service and meals. Sorry, no...
Read moreNew fine dining restaurant in Brownwood. The food and service ( Shoutout to Luke and Ariel! You are both true craftsman at creating an amazing experience for your guests! ) were so good my wife and I went for dinner two nights in a row to try different dishes! We went between 4 and 5pm and it seemed somewhat crowded. The outdoor seating was full each time, but was able to grab a table inside no problem. We sat at a hightop to the left of the bar the first visit and along the back wall with bench seating near the kitchen the second time. The chairs were very comfortable. The decor and atmosphere felt new, exciting, and you could tell you're in a more upscale restaurant. The bathrooms were even cool!
When you go the first time your waiter will explain the menu which helps as there are chef recommended items and seasonal items, which means the menu will be changing. There is a food and cocktail menu. The food menu is laid out in a traditional way with appitizers, salads, sandwiches, bowls, land, sea and dessert categories. There is a large win list and wine pairing suggestions for certain dishes. You can even experience a 4 course dinner curated by the executive chef! The appitizers are very yummy, especially the Taquito Horneado and seasonal soup Butternut Squash Bisque. We saw other guests try to Squash Blossoms, Charcuterie Board and Tampura Vegetables. Their plates were clean in a matter of minutes!
For our first visit we thoroughly enjoyed the Cashew Chicken and Baked Cod Florentine. Both on a bed of Thai rice that had a nice coconut flavor and a side of roasted carrots. The chicken was very juicy, tender and flavorful. Sweet and savory with a little heat from a slice of chili.
For our second visit I ordered the Thai Pork and my wife ordered the Portabella Pasta. The Thai Pork reminded me of a Ramen bowl because our waitress completed it's assembly at the table by pouring a savory broth over the buckwheat noodles, thick slices of perfectly tender and seaspned pork loin and vegetables (green onion, spicy beansprouts, etc.). It was AMAZING! I couldn't stop eating it.
My wife ended up returning the Portabella Pasta which was their vegan dish and ordered the Scallop Rissoto instead. It came with 4 plump and perfectly seared buttery scallops. The roasted tomatoe jalapeño-corn risotto was a perfect combination. Very delicious!
Overall, a great experience. I would...
Read moreI don’t normally like to write negative reviews, but I was very disappointed by my meal earlier tonight. To be fair, a manager did come by our table and asked how everything was but I didn’t want to say anything in front of the people we were with because we were their guests.
I ordered a Munroe Martini for $12. Here’s the description: ketel one botanical peach & orange blossom, dragon fruit, jalapeño slices, orange juice. I was brought an Italian Paloma and couldn’t get our server’s attention for about 10 minutes. When I told him he gave me the wrong drink, he said the bartender just put it over ice. Ice and a tumbler and the wrong ingredients do not add up to a martini. He brought me the martini a few minutes later but it wasn’t in a martini glass. It looked like a coupe cocktail glass. I didn’t say anything though. The martini was too sweet for my taste but that’s on me. I should’ve known better than to order peach and orange blossom vodka.
We ordered two Harvest Hummus appetizers. Here’s the description: roasted garlic and lemon hummus, vegetables, pita bread. The hummus did not taste like roasted garlic or lemon. It tasted plain. The “vegetables” consisted of a couple of cucumber slices and a couple of grape tomatoes mixed into the hummus. The pita bread appeared to have been taken out of the package and thrown on the plate. It wasn’t warmed, grilled, seasoned, nothing. I expected it to be “elevated” for $13 each.
I ordered the Thai Pork for $22. Here’s the description: ginger soy roasted pork loin, thai rice, mushrooms, ponzu, green onion. The pork loin had no ginger soy taste and it was well done and dry. And there were only four very small pieces. I have no idea why the thai rice was called thai rice because it tasted like dried out leftover Knorr rice from a package with a little water added to make it more palatable (I know because I’ve done that 😬). Also, the amount of rice was disproportionate to the amount of pork. The mushrooms looked semi-dehydrated. The green onions were fine. The ponzu was not real ponzu. It had soy sauce added to it and that’s all it tasted like. There was no citrus in it. Or if there was, it was undetectable.
I can’t speak to anyone else’s meal because I didn’t want to ask and make it a thing. Like I said, I was very disappointed. I had been looking forward to going to Harvest and now I wish I...
