A group of us saw the article in the Daily Press and decided to see for ourselves if the food at Munchies Southern Soul was so good that you’d want to throw your purse across the room as Rekaya Gibson stated in her May 15th Daily Press article. We went on a weekend about a month ago. I ordered whiting fish, cabbage, mac-n-cheese, lemonade and potatoe salad. I’m telling you it was the BEST meal I have had in years. We tasted each other’s food. One of the people in my group ordered the liver and onions smothered in gravy. I don’t like liver, never was able to tolerate the texture/taste, but that liver and gravy I would eat!! The food I would give a 10+, the service or lack thereof - that needs work, but it is a new establishment in Williamsburg and it’s going to take some time to get to where it needs to be. Munchies Southern Soul has so much potential!! I would love to see it succeed!! You don’t get food like that too often. I would say go there and see for yourself, but be prepared – it takes a while, be patient and you won’t be sorry. I will definitely be going there again and I’m looking forward to trying the banana pudding. I told the owner, Shelton Stapleton, I would call ahead to be sure it was in stock before I come. Besides the long wait and lack of wait staff, we truly enjoyed ourselves. I saw the reviews/complaints – don’t complain offer your help or make a donation or something to help this new restaurant take off. When you go - remember I...
Read moreHow could you go wrong with wings and fries? The frozen packaged shoe strings fries were not cooked to perfection and I received about 22. One of my chicken wingetyes were soggy as if it sat on the carryout tray before the other ones were done. I must say the chicken was hot upon my arrival to my destination
They did not have salt and pepper packets or carryout utensils. I was there for over an half hour to receive my food with about 13 people in the establishment. The party of six was already served. The service was very slow for the amount of people in the establishment. The owner and two other people were doing the cooking. Until the owner began working at the refister to tend to the bill of the larger party. There was one lady taking and servicing the customers. Why didn't I call or return to the establishment because it was hot outside and I just didn't feel like it. I took the $14+ as a loss and a lesson learned. Let me say, I actually thought it was Corey's spot until I asked the lady who took my order. So, I figured I was there and would give them a try. Overall, they were nice but unfortunately for me as a visitor from out of state I will not return upon my next visit to...
Read moreOMG! my family and I live in upstate NY and here on vacation…we like to go where the locals eat when we are on vacations…. After multiple failed “lunch spot near me” google search’s, I gave it one more go… up pops a picture of chicken wings, Mac n cheese and collard greens…. Plenty of stars so we put it in the GPS. Pulled up to a small 5 or 6 store front strip… ok…. We are still going. We are exhausted, want to sleep and go check in to our hotel. There wasn’t too many people there however they seemed happy. See picture to see what we ordered…. There was not one thing we didn’t like. The Steak pasta was AMAZING!! The chicken wings were crispy and full of flavor. The Mac n cheese.. homemade baked and scrumptious. My 9 year old cleaned his plate, ate off mine and my husbands… then asked if we could come back tomorrow! The answer is YES! If you are looking for elegance don’t bother. Hit up this place and enjoy every morsel put...
