Full confession...we neglected to discover this gem sooner. That being said, I have not gone to any other breakfast/brunch/lunch place since we did find it. I like the atmosphere with a diner vibe and the coolest collection of salt and pepper shaker sets (I thought I'd seen them all, but they snuck new ones in on me). The coffee is great (I like good to great coffee-not Starbucks burnt offerings), and they have a lot of coffee (espresso, Americano, cappuccino, etc.), tea and craft soda options...but even if they served muddy coffee I would still come for the food (they absolutely do NOT serve muddy coffee tho'). Pastries are beautiful and delicious-crusts flaky like you see on cooking shows. Cakes are themed with chef inspired offerings that are way too big for one person. Sometimes I just give in and take my dessert to go (a common practice because decisions are hard.) The regular (using that word loosely) menu items have never disappointed. Eggs Benedict-I have never had better-buscuits and gravy (sorry I just started salivating) are savory and rich, the chicken mojito sandwich (good luck eating that without a fork) are just a few things we've enjoyed. The scrambled eggs are unexpectedly amazing! Don't dismiss scrambled eggs because the seem pedestrian-they are not ordinary. I think if you want real quality food made by artists-you will be surprised at how reasonably priced they are, but if eating cheap is your goal-you should stick to a chain restaurant. Luckily that leaves a table...
Read moreHonestly up until the end I thought I was going to write a 5 star review, but here we are. I got the eggs Benedict, it was awesome, though weird to add a side meat but charge for a second egg. Our waitress was wonderful. The food came out and I had bacon instead of the sausage it came with which I just let slide but then I got charged extra for the wrong thing and it went downhill from there.
The woman who helped with the baked goods and rang us up was unpleasant at best. I asked about the salt and pepper cookie, she said it was really good. I suggested having samples since it's such an odd thing people might not be inclined to pay 7 bucks for a giant cookie they may hate. I guess that suggestion was a kin to stabbing her dog. She was just really unpleasant to deal with from there. My friends eggs got put on my bill for some reason. I just paid it so I didn't have to further deal with this person. Really just took what started as a great breakfast experience and made it such.
Also, I get that my friend is gorgeous and I am decidedly average at best but when the chef comes out to talk to the "table" maybe don't walk away when someone is midsentence, it's better to just stand and admire her from the kitchen, she wasn't impressed...
Read moreMade it to That New Place for Saturday breakfast and the customer flow was steady but not congested. The interior is inviting, clean and tasteful. The servers were prompt and pleasant. The Eggs Benedict were some of the best I’ve ever tasted and the candied bacon well worth the extra $1. I believe one of the owners was preparing the food and he came by our table to ask how our experience was. They also appear to bake everything they serve so there are plenty of sweet temptations to grab and go. Lattes were also good. Yes, the menu is somewhat limited but that likely allows them to ensure it’s all mindfully prepared and delicious. And yes, it’s a little higher priced but portions are generous and you get what you pay for. Well...
