Pappa Charlie's Deli — Restaurant in Williamstown

I have been a loyal customer of Pappa Charlie’s going on 20 years but over the last month my loyalty is starting to shift to Spring Street Market…the sandwiches are great but the service has gone severely down hill. Twice over the last month I have called in to place and order to only get a busy signal for an hour straight which made drive down to try and get my sandwich. The first time it was “closed for maintenance” and the second time they “couldn’t make any more sandwiches at this time” and told me to come back in 30 minutes. Issues happen but inconveniencing customer for no reason isn’t a good look for a business. Set up a voicemail or automated message to inform customers of issues and if you can’t take orders still take the calls and simply tell people instead of leaving them in the dark. I have also found the it is rarely stocked with drinks and chips the way it used to be and orders I have placed have been wrong on a higher than average rate. Terrible experience, worsened by mediocre food. Place was crowded and had to wait in line to pick up my pre-ordered sandwich. Only about 4 or 5 vegetarian options (that an actual vegetarian would eat) and so I ordered one with fake chicken, thinking it was safest.

Get the sandwich to my car and attempt to open it. Pickle juice drips all over and onto my work clothes. Sandwich was cut in half in such a way that when I opened the paper, it practically fell out onto me. Sandwich was floppy/difficult to eat. Most of the shredded lettuce (really? shredded? no romaine or actual leaf lettuce?) and sprouts fell out as I ate. And to top it off, the "chicken" in the sandwich was just what appeared to be a Morningstar Farms breaded chik'n patty. Which, which good, was NOT what I was expecting/hoping for. The sandwich was therefore dry. Actual vegetarians should be consulted when vegetarian options are put on the menu.

I will not be eating here again, nor will I suggest...

Back in June 2023, we were being fun tourists and checking out the area. What a great find! We were passing through looking for a bite to eat and WOW, we hit the jackpot. Such a fun vibe, great service and tasty sandwiches. Don't let yourself get overwhelmed with the fabulous selection of sandwiches, tell them what you like and they will help steer you to something tasty! I got the Richard Chamberlain and was over the moon for it. The flavors mixed so well together! I'll definitely be trying this from home since I live far away! The staff recommended the Polar Raspberry Lime sparkling water and the two went well together and its my new fave drink. Wish I snapped the other sandwiches but we were so hungry and they were so good, there was chance! I only got picture of 1/2 of mine. If you are anywhere near here, it is worth stopping. And lots of fun places nearby to shop for unique things...
