This was the WORST WORST WORTST restaurant experience I've had all year. And it was all because of the customer service. I went among a party of 16 or so for a birthday casual get together. We had the back partitioned area. The issue arose when it was time to pay. MAYFLOWER is the type of restaurant where they don't bring the check to your table. Instead you go to the front register and tell them what you ordered and they ring you up there. We'll it had been lightly raining. (Far-far from storming). Their card reader system went out which left 20 plus people standing in line trying to pay. The manager was back and forth taking peoples cards to another register to try to ring them up. Which also didn't work. We were told this happens often when it rains. We asked if they had a imprint carbon copy card thingy. They did not. WHY DONT THEY HAVE A BACK-UP IF THIS HAPPENS OFTEN WHEN IT RAINS. And so we waited. I felt like I was being held hostage. There was a military vet behind us in line. (Not in our party) He asked the cashiers if he could go ahead of us because he had cash. At first the cashiers ignored him. But the party I was with agreed and pressured the cashiers to let him go ahead ( there was no point in all of us waiting, the line was growing). The cashier in front of everyone in line asked the military vet-older-man, "IF HE WAS SURRRREE HE HAD ENOUGH MONEY TO COVER HIS BILL". Why would she ask that? It was presumptuous and stereotypical. The man paid in cash. My party thanked him for his service and he left. We went on to wait at least 15-20 mins more before the card system started working again. Thirty-two minutes total wait standing to pay! We were late for the movie we were trying to go to next. And the Manger and cashiers NEVER EVEN APOLOGIZED for our wait/inconvenience. They could have given us a gift card, taken 10% off our bill, or even just verbally apologized. They were on the clock while standing there. We were not NOT RETURNING!!!! Not only did we have to pay in full we also had to rip them since it was an automatic gratuity for a largeparry. The manager should have stayed up front with the less experienced cashiers. I felt she threw them to the wolves during this incident. Never an apology.
The food: I got the fried scallops. They were edible. They were under seasoned and I expected a hard crunchy fry. They were fried softly. The shrimp was also fried soft and whimsy, but somehow...
Read moreI've heard about Mayflower restaurants in North Carolina for years, but I never had the opportunity to eat at one. I also learned today that they are all different owners. Anyway, I was in Wilson today for my son's baseball game and wanted to eat somewhere that we don't have at home. I love seafood, so this place was my choice. We were not disappointed! I ordered the "Fried Captain Smith's" combination platter. I was very impressed with the amount of food that I got for about $21. Never at home would any restaurant give that much food for that price. The sweet tea was good also. I'm a sweet tea drinker, and I am picky about it. The fried food was a little salty for me, but that's not a problem. I'm just not a person who likes or uses salt. Everything was flavorful. My granddaughter joined me, ordering the children's chicken tender meal. An adult couldn't eat all of that food. I've never seen chicken tenders so big before! You get three tenders that appear to be one breast cut into thirds. I was expecting scrawny strips. Not at all! There was a pile of crinkle fries to go with it. My granddaughter loved the hushpuppies. Little kids are so picky. This menu has so much to offer. I loved the restaurant's theme inside. It's definitely nautical. The staff is attentive, taking care of their customers and are inviting. It's about an hour and a ten minute drive from my house, and I would absolutely make it again just to eat here! I mentioned my son, but he rode home with his school and wasn't able to experience what we did. His school bus stopped at Parker's Barbecue. To be simple, he wasn't impressed. Back to Mayflower, check them out if you...
Read moreWe ordered 2 combination platters , 3 drinks and dozen hushpuppies . The first platter was popcorn chicken and popcorn shrimp the 2nd platter was chicken fingers and jumbo shrimp . The waiter never asked about our food anytime after it was given to us - eventually we got his attention and told him the chicken fingers were overcooked and were hard and only ate one of them and the jumbo shrimp my mom said was like rubber and also only ate one of them . The hushpuppies , fries and popcorn shrimp was decent . The waiter wasn't very Empathetic at all and just said let me get the manager - the manager came over and was worse than the waiter and told us she could only make one of our platters a junior - which after I totalled out everything was like a $3 or $4 dollar discount - we sent back 2 pieces which equals the entire combination platter - the side included which was $19 and she gives us a $3 discount ? I did the math and realized the discount before paying and confronted the manager and she was very rude and said yes that's all I'm giving you . Our total was still $45 and sent back half the food . 0 stars for you we will definitely never be back and I strongly recommend not...
