What a find!!! This place is excellent! I 💕 love Asian food so much and had no idea this restaurant existed until Sunday after a hike to Buggytop.
What's really awesome is that they include a variety of Asian dishes - including Vietnamese pho - and they do them well. Some restaurants try to pull off so much cultural variety that some cuisines taste like knock offs if that makes sense.
Mali Thai has a lovely and tasteful interior/atmosphere, great service, reasonable prices, and outstanding 💯 food.
I ordered the crab rangoon and spring rolls for an appetizer. Beautiful presentation and tasty. I enjoyed the sauce, but I'm not sure what flavor sauce it was. Usually spring rolls I've ordered at other places have been served with a peanut sauce, which I've come to love. My only suggestion to Mali Thai would be to offer customers a choice of the two sauces. Again, this sauce was delicious, but I just love the peanut sauce. (The sauce I had may have had a peanut base for all I know... I'm no sauce expert.)
Moving on from the sauce, I also had beef pho. Pho is one of my favorite foods and Mali Thai nailed it! The broth and meat were flavorfully delicious and tasted like (what I perceive as) traditional pho. My friend had the tofu version and while she loved the pho, she felt the tofu needed to be individually flavored perhaps prior to going in the pho. I don't know anything about tofu, so I'll leave it at that.
I can't emphasize enough how happy I was to find myself at a great Asian restaurant in a cute rural town in Tennessee. Usually I have to go down to Chattanooga for that. I highly recommend Mali Thai if you enjoy Asian cuisines or if you've never tried them before. This is the right place to give it a go, and there's something for everyone's dietary preference on the...
Read moreAbsolutely terrible food! Seriously? How did they get four stars? Let me start by saying that I absolutely love Thai food and know it very well and this was NOT it! Service was great, food came fast..I just wish it would have gone as fast as it got there. Everything was so heavily laced with sugar it was practically inedible. The fried rice was a bit bland but otherwise the most edible thing there. We ordered the steamed dumplings (these were Chinese shumai definitely not Thai dumplings of any kind) satay chicken skewers were good but even without the sweet satay sauce or sugar water with apple and onion sauce these tasted like they were marinated in sugar water. What their obsession with sugar is in this kitchen I can’t fathom. My Chicken Pad See Eew was seasoned with pretty much nothing but straight sweet soy mixed with a bit of broth to thin it and a splash of regular soy for saltiness. Pad See Eew is usually never a sweet dish but this was horribly sweet. The piece-de-resistance however was the deplorable Chicken Pad Thai my husband ordered. It was thin rice noodles with a sauce that tasted exactly like a mixture of Cambells canned tomato soup and straight up Karo corn syrup. It was revolting and so sweet that when we ate the candy that came with our bill the candy didn’t even taste sweet. My husband is diabetic so he was unable to eat anything but the rice. I can only assume, judging by the reviews, that they have a regular chef who doesn’t work weekends or maybe we got stuck with the owners son learning how to cook. Whatever the case may be, paying over $70 for food we could barely stomach is not an experience we would ever...
Read moreMy family and I have tried going to eat here several times and they were closed due to staffing issues, we finally were able to eat here and they were slammed. We walked in and the one and only waitress they had said it would be about a hour wait, and we decided to stay anyway. Even though the wait was long the young lady that was waiting tables was doing all she could to keep everyone waited on, and it was worth the wait. The food was great and authentic definitely wasn’t disappointed by the wait or the flavor of the food. The owner and only cook came out and asked if everything was good. We talked to her for a few minutes and told her we had tried eating there several times but they were closed due to no help, and she told us she was sorry and started tearing up while telling us about how she has struggled to keep the doors open due to how hard it is to get help. It was very eye opening and sad to hear. Please give this place a try you won’t be disappointed and be patient and remember she is preparing the food from scratch and she does it all by herself! Tip and treat the waitress well because he or she at least showed up to work unlike lots of people...
