Jin Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Winooski

My son and I are in the process of visiting every Chinese restaurant in Chittenden County. We always order the same thing.

I order a chicken and broccoli combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. My son orders a sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice and teriyaki sticks.

In this case, Jin's has discontinued offering combination meals, so we ordered the equivalent meals a la carte.

Price: $40.65. On a price per ounce basis ( $.46/oz), the price is outrageously high.

Portion: 5.5lbs between the two meals is a bit larger than average.

Pros: Good location easily accessible from the heart of Winooski. Overall, the food had good flavor. The pork fried rice was moist and tasty. Microwavable trays are a bonus and distinctive. Hot and spicy offering is available.

Cons: PRICE, PRICE, PRICE! On a per ounce basis, Jin's is nearly twice as expensive as comparable Chinese takeouts in Chittenden County.

Reduced hours 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm, a 53% reduction from pre-Covid. By charging 2X, they're able to reduce business hours by half and maintain pre-Covid income level.

We ordered just after opening at 3:00 pm and it took 35 minutes for the food to be ready.

Impression: Good food at a convenient location. Ridiculously high pricing around 2X the average Chinese takeout in Chittenden County. After trying several Chinese food places all over the area, this place is the best! Great food and portion sizes at a reasonable price! Been going here for a couple of years now and they have never gotten our orders wrong, not even once, and we sometimes have very large orders! Their online ordering system is easy and they are very prompt with order times! They will make your food as spicy as you want or they can keep it tame. All soups, crab rangoon, dumplings and noodle dishes are great! We have never been disappointed with any of the main dishes. The front staff is very friendly and they treat you with kindness and respect. This is a take out only place but worth your drive to get it! We are sad that they take time off in the summer. We haven't found any place in Chittenden county that comes close to this for good...

If I could leave a zero star review, I would. We ordered two combo meals (not too much to ask) and then waited nearly two hours for food. We eventually called back to check in because we were very hungry and they said they ran out of chicken. The most basic meat. They told us we could order something else and wait ANOTHER half an hour at least. I have never written a review before so please understand the sadness I felt that caused me to write this review. I am still hungry. And very sad. Also, they were very impatient when asking how many forks we need. Sometimes you have to think about a question like that. Patience is a virtue. They lack...
