Prefacing by saying I went for a private event and it may not be their normal way of operating (I hope). I go out of my way to support Black-owned businesses and was happy to see the event being held at this spot.
The Good: Itās a decent venue and the ambience was nice but the decor was dated. The owner was pleasant and seemed really committed to making everyone comfortable. The DJ played good music. There is free parking in front.
The OK: I had a martini that was conceived better on paper than the execution. I also had a watered down piƱa colada and was told they were having issues with their blender. I didnāt drink it all.
They were understaffed for the event and that caused a lot of delays which led to people receiving cold food, the wrong items, or not receiving items at all for over an hour. However, the staff was pleasant and doing the best they could despite some of them being unknowledgeable about what was going on.
They served crab legs that were seasoned well, but they didnāt have enough crab crackers for everyone so it was hard to enjoy the crab meat. And since the crabs were overcooked, the shells bent instead of cracking.
The Bad:
I think they need a new bartender or better cocktail options. The drinks were overpriced for their size and low alcohol content.
They need to invest in upgrading the seating, which was ripped up and can snag your clothing.
We had the seafood boil, the only choice at first. I had to send mine back because it was cold upon arrival. The way to avoid this is to cook a seafood boil and serve it in a bag to keep the steam and heat it. When they brought me back a plate, it was actually the plate of the woman sitting across from me. She recognized it because she had eaten from it before sending hers back too. That was unsanitary and it made me question other sanitary issues. I kinda lost my appetite at that point.
Though they were nice, the waitstaff was inexperienced and lacked the training needed to provide service in a restaurant. I think this would be a successful endeavor if they just sold platters on UberEats but without top notch service, it isnāt worth the visit.
I do a lot of recipe development and I had some issues with the food itself, but I know others might enjoy it, so thatās all up to individual opinion. I do think with some improvements to the service and menu offerings, they can improve a great deal. I wish I had an option other than the boil. If I was in the area I would try other things. Unfortunately it wasnāt a good first impression but I do wish them success because it isnāt easy in the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHEAVENLY!! iām new to williamstown, and my family and i wanted to go somewhere close today, but we wanted something other than pizza or chinese takeout. and wow this was such a unique cute place! the vibes were great. i enjoyed the ambiance, and i like that thereās only a couple tables in there. it gives it an intimate feel. i believe thereās also outdoor dining, and it is byob. we sat in a round booth in the corner which i loved because it gave it a comfortable intimate feel. our waitress was so attentive and on point. okay, so.. the food. the real crab fries ARE AMAZING!!!!!! the 4 of us scarfed them down so fast. we couldnāt keep our hands away from the plate lol. they give large portions too! i got the crab mac n cheese, and it was mouthwatering. there were even little shrimps mixed in there, and the way the cheese melted in on the top was perfect. we loved the touch of it being served in a little cast iron dish too. i didnāt have my phone with me, so the only photo i have is of these delicious sweet potato muffins (you HAVE to try them!!!). the order comes with 3, so enough to share. we enjoyed it so much that we even ordered some more to take home with us. it was so moist and flavorful, and has some delicious topping lightly drizzled on the top too. the food really is out of this world there. iām so glad we finally tried it today. weāll definitely be back again. you have to check out the sea bar....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWho wouldāve known as this hidden gem sits on Main Street, but seems tucked away. It took a friend from Brooklyn, NY to call and tell me about the place thatās right in our back yard.
First thingā¦.MAKE RESERVATIONS. Itās next to impossible to just walk up/in.
Parking, while there is ample on street parking on Main Street, there is a side street right outside the door. No onsite parking lot.
While small on the inside, it was perfect for us (party of 4). It actually seemed more personable with having only 2 booths, and 2 tables. There is no crowd.
The food selection was great, fresh and hot off the stoveā¦..from soul food, to Caribbean, to that New Orleans flava. I think between our table and the one next to us, we tried to sample a lot on the menu: Shrimp and grits (brunch menu), fish and grits (brunch menu), stuffed salmon, lobster and rice, fried whiting, sweet potato muffins, Cesar salad, bang bang shrimp, fries with Parmesan, plain fries, and jerk chicken wings. Portions are good. Beverages are typical bottle drinks.
Call for BYOB. Thought I saw bottle of wine, but it couldāve been sparkling juice.
Itās hard to find good food here in south Jersey, but this is a hidden gem.
I hope they grow the business to a much larger location, as the SJ community needs this.
We will be returning to...
