GOT RIPPED OFF ...IN MANY WAYS. First the lady up front had a snobby attitude. (Was it your wife ? If so, keep her at home, she will drive people away...or who ever she is) . I ordered a dish was $15, with chicken. and my friend ordered same dish with pork &beef and they charged him $8 more because he had the combo...2proteins, but then they charge $1.50 Xtra for beef and 1.50 more for shrimp... menu is misleading... so he paid $8 extra for "combo" but. Then they charge him $3 extra for beef and shrimp... ( but it was already $8more because it was a "combo" ) I had a tiny slice of kale ( i mean TINY) and a little more cabbage... MAINLY ALL NOODLES. so my friend paid the reg $15 plus extra $8+1.50+1.50 total extra $11 because it was a combo 2 proteins..... equals $26 for same thing what he could have gotten at hanes mall food court for $9....and ofcourse, I paid 15 for what I could have had (better food, same amunt) at the food court. The menu is misleading... becareful of built in ripoffs in the menu. Then if you say "spicy" they charge extra $1.... you don't see that anywhere else either. I will NEVER RETURN TO THIS RIP OFF JOINT. and the lady up front needs a lesson on customer service.. if she works there she needs to be trained... if she is the owner's , then if she is going to treat customers with out customer service... then she need work somewhere else...statistics are most dissatisfied customers don't do a review , they just don't return. I did a review and will not return and I think I am doing the owner a favor by doing this review... because YOU ARE LOOSUNG CUSTOMERS.. you think people dont care if they get bad service or overpriced food..?...

I recently tried to make katsudon myself, and enjoyed it a lot, but I was lamenting because I'd never tried it outside of my own. Well, after finding out about Don Express I had to try it right away.

I followed them on facebook when they were a food truck and never got around to trying them out because of covid, and then I saw them posting about their location, I was really excited about trying their stuff. They have some of my favorite Japanese foods; Takoyaki, Yakisoba and Ramen to name a few, but I had to try their Katsudon today and it did not disappoint it was FANTASTIC.

I myself got their Katsu curry, spicy with kimchi and my partner got the classic Katsudon. Both were absolutely delicious.

Though I really enjoyed making Katsudon myself, I'm going to be coming back here for theirs because it's divine. Light and crispy and not in the slightest bit greasy. The spiciness was enjoyable and not overwhelming to me, and I liked that they paired the spicy version with kimchi. I was surprised to get some kimchi with Japanese food, but I loved the fusion.

They also have some of my favorite Japanese drinks, bottled Ito en green tea and Calpico. Since moving to NC I've found it so hard to get my hands on my favorite Japanese goodies, so it's nice to know a place nearby has them.

The indoor seating space is super limited, but I really enjoyed sitting outside, it's peaceful for being so near a main road, and I love that they have a little watering station for pets.

The staff was super friendly and brought our food out to us.

Really looking forward to eating...

I recently had the chance to try Don Express, and I was blown away. This hidden gem serves up delicious and authentic Japanese street food, and I can't recommend it highly enough.

The menu features all my favorite Japanese classics, like yakisoba and ramen, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients. I tried the Chicken Katsu Don which is Japanese fried chicken served over rice, and it was absolutely incredible. The chicken was perfectly crispy and flavorful, and the rice was cooked to perfection.

The staff at Don Express is also incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they had great drinks (Both the green tea and melon juice were great), as well as some deserts, like a Strawberry roll, and a cheesecake, both also delicious.

Overall, Don Express is a fantastic restaurant that offers a taste of Japan in the heart of Winston-Salem. If you're looking for delicious and authentic Japanese food, be sure to...

Japanese food is more than just hibachi and ramen, and Don Express is certainly here to tell you about it. After looking for quite some time, I believe that this restaurant is the definitive spot for Japanese food in Winston-Salem, if not the Triad, serving izakaya-style faire including okonomiyaki, yakisoba, katsu curry, gyudon, and a variety of other entrees which are honestly quite difficult to find outside of Charlotte and Raleigh. I will caution that this restaurant is very small and the seating is limited, but I believe it is well worth a diversion even if you are not in the Winston-Salem area. This location is well worth the price for what is offered and the quality is exceptional. The hours as of this writing are a bit limited (please double-check them before you go) but I would not let that deter someone from giving this place a shot... I absolutely loved the food and will definitely be back again!

We had our first time here a few weeks ago, my meal was great, and I ordered the katsu chicken curry. I do wish the chicken itself had a little more seasoning. Besides this, the crunch was beautiful. On their website, they show the option to select chicken for the ramen, but when making the order, the man taking our order abruptly told us that it wasn't an option. Sadly, we only received one meal as the order for my partners ramen was never placed. We sat there for 10 minutes before realizing that only one meal was going to be served, and the order for ramen wasn't on the receipt. This was quite frustrating. The restaurant itself is very cute, and there is enough seating to enjoy your meal without being cramped. The enclosed seating area was lovely during summertime.
