I can't believe all the positive reviews this place hast received. I used to come here years ago and boy has it changed. It’s disheartening to see how this restaurant has gone down hill. What was once an attempt to bring a small-town concept to life now feels like a failed endeavor in mass production. My recent visit left me thoroughly disappointed.
I don’t know if they source their barbecue from another place due to local laws prohibiting wood cooking within city limits, or if they’re making it the oven and adding smoke flavor to it….but the authenticity and flavor that one would expect from an original North Carolina BBQ spot were sorely lacking. The staff seemed uninformed about North Carolina BBQ basics and struggled to answer basic questions or recommend appropriate sauces.
One major issue during my visit was the timing of food delivery. All dishes arrived simultaneously, leaving me with no choice but to prioritize eating my salad first while my barbecue grew cold on the plate. Additionally, I found it disappointing that the typical dip sauce was not readily available on our table or brought out with our meal; I had to specifically request it.
I ordered a chopped tray expecting finely chopped meat but received chunky burnt pieces instead—a clear deviation from what was advertised on the menu. While the wait staff attempted to assist in rectifying this issue, it did little to salvage my overall experience.
Furthermore, I had hoped for some solace in enjoying their banana pudding as I had done during their early days; however, what they now serve is nothing more than a small vat of instant pudding lacking any real flavor or texture appeal. My portion contained only one piece of almost-rotten banana and only a few nilla wafer crumbs and a tiny dollup of whipped cream. This was insulting. I expressed my dissatisfaction, and while the manager kindly attempted to make amends by bringing additional whipped cream and a small pile of Nilla wafers, it was too little, too late.
The decline in food quality, lack of authenticity in their barbecue, timing issues with food delivery, and their obvious attempts to raise pricing and cut corners in quality all contributed to an overall negative experience. As much as I appreciate the manager's attempt at rectifying the situation, it is unlikely that I will return in the future. Save your time and money by exploring other dining options instead. Drive out to Lexington and go to Lexington BBQ—that is...
Read moreI really enjoyed eating at this restaurant. The atmosphere was casual and there were different seating arrangements. There were booths there were tables, there were half booths and half tables which I love. The food was great. The chicken wing was good w/Asian sauce,. I had the sauce on the side and the chicken was not salty like so many other places I have been to. I also had the brisket and the ribs and they were good. It was not overly salty like other barbecue restaurants in town they put so much salt you can’t even taste the food because all you can taste the salt so I loved it. Thankyou chef that realize we are not deers so we don’t need to lick on a salt cube! The potato salad was good and so was the hush puppies. The only thing I think could’ve been better was the rolls they were kinda cheap It added nothing meal And the coleslaw was not good. It didn’t have any flavor. I suggest you guys do some taste testing on that coleslaw and really work on that recipe because it need a littleSweetness needed some tartness and it was just blah. It’s hard to mess up coleslaw but whoever is making the coleslaw do not know what they doing so sorry sorry Chef . Services is great and I will definitely be ordering my super bowl wings from there so you better not run out. Lots of food for the price I had a big lunch the next day! For the amount of food for the price it’s the best...
Read moreWent yesterday at 5:15 pm for our first visit to the new Stratford location. Nice decor but finish construction was not done well. Ie: tile work in service area was poorly done among other things. Wait staff was friendly but forgetful. Never got the lemon for our water. Asked twice. Ordered the Margarita drink special and it was undrinkable. Too sweet and according to waiter they used house made sour mix to make it. Tequila was not detectible. Awful! To be fair the waiter did offer to replace drinks buts that’s not good because the bartender does not know how to make proper cocktails. Chopped bbq sandwich was good but never got the red slaw we ordered on the side. Ribs were ok but a little dry not at all juicy. French fries and hush puppies were NOT hot just warm and greasy. Not to mention fries were from frozen product. Fried okra was also just barely warm and crust was soggy. Yuck! If I could guess it appeared that all sides came from something keep them warm. Not freshly cooked. Must have been leftover from lunch. Surely you can do better. No quality control just get it out fast. The restaurant was not busy at that hour and it still took 25 minutes for our food to arrive after we had our drinks. Very slow for everything being pre cooked and in a half...
