We moved to Wisconsin Rapids about a year ago and have been disappointed with the quality of the Culvers. We came from a city with 3 different Culvers, all of which offered consistently good food and service. Wisconsin Rapids...not so much. But, since options are limited in WR, we've patronized the restaurant despite the somewhat substandard experience. Tonight's experience was by far the worst, though.
We pulled in to the drive-thru just after 9 pm and my partner placed an order for a cod sandwich basket, a grilled cheese, and soup. The cashier read our order back to us, we agreed that everything was correct, and we pulled up to the window. It took a REALLY LONG TIME for her to ring us up. Weird, but she didn't ask any questions or say anything, so we didn't think too much about it. (In retrospect, we realized she never told us the total or offered a receipt.) She put a number on our window and we pulled ahead. After a fairly long wait, considering that there were no cars ahead of us or behind us, someone brought our food out. Normally, they say, "Did you have the pot roast and the cheeseburger?" But this person said, "Number 60?" We looked at the number stuck to our mirror, which was, in fact, #60, so we said "Yes." The person handed us 2 bags of food, plus a tray with a shake and ice cream. I thought it was weird, but I had been on my phone when my partner ordered, so I couldn't remember/didn't know what he ordered. When we were about halfway home, he said, "Wait. Did you order a shake and ice cream? I can't remember."
Realization dawned on us. I looked at the ticket on the bag, and it was in fact #60 - the number that had been stuck to our car - but the ticket had no resemblance to our order. Not one thing was the same. It was for three double cheeseburgers, plus ice cream, plus cheese curds, plus a shake. But, it was late and we were almost home, so we just decided to deal with it.
Unfortunately, we can't check my partner's debit card to see if he was charged for the wrong order (which would be way more expensive than what we actually ordered). He changed phone numbers ages ago and can't get into his bank account since he can't get texted a code to log in. (Grrrrrrr.) But, I'm guessing that since we were handed that number by the cashier, we also paid for that order. What I really can't figure out is where that order came from since there was literally nobody ahead of us OR behind us. What the hell?
Disappointing experience all around. Despite the lack of alternatives in Rapids, we won't be going back. After that, putting up with the watered-down soup, the soggy fish, and the burned grilled cheese and sourdough melts just isn't worth it anymore. (Seriously...I've never had bad food at a Culver's until moving to WR. What is up with...

I ordered 16 (2 8-pieces) buffalo chicken tenders recently, they accidentally gave me 8 instead of 16. I was a little disappointed because I already drove home and my house was too far away to turn back and fix the order. I called and told them what happened and the manager was happy to send me a coupon. I didn't really expect anything besides coupons to get the chicken I was missing, but they went above and beyond and gave me two value baskets of my choice. They even gave me a handwritten letter apologizing (wow!) and the coupons arrived in just a few days.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the amount of effort that goes into this business. It's a wonderful place with delicious food, and they always have your back if things go wrong accidentally too.
Btw, if you love salad, this place serves the freshest/most reasonably price salad in town. I've tried salads basically everywhere in Wisconsin Rapids (including small local places) and Culvers is still the best! Get the Strawberry Fields Salad whenever they offer it, it's a seasonal salad they have sometimes and...
Read moreThis used to be THE place to go. I would go at least once a week. Food was always hot, good, and quick service. Now they always get your order wrong, the fries are clearly fried in old oil and disgusting, the burgers are overcooked or cold and they have new people all the time that don't know what they're doing. Never have any parking and the drive through is slow. I don't understand why they are busy with how crappy their food is now. For almost $14 a meal, it should be good. If I wanted disgusting food I can go to McDonald's for $5. Filling out surveys does nothing to change the service and I don't think I will be going here much if at all anymore. If I want Culver's I'll drive to Stevens point. They also never include ketchup for your fries anymore and if you ask half the time they put it on your burger or whatever you ordered even when you specifically said PACKETS FOR FRIES. And even if the order miraculously is taken correctly, the kitchen doesn't bother reading it and just sends out the regular usual instead of the extras you...
