What an awful experience, definitely won’t be coming back. The food was not good but it was edible. Not authentic, tasted like many items were not made in house (like bought from a vendor and just warmed up in the restaurant). I’m Mexican/Puerto Rican and grew up in Southwest Detroit so my standards for Hispanic/Latin food are very high. But what really made the experience worse was the AWFUL service! We came in around 8pm this Saturday. The hostess gave us a dirty look as if we were coming in before closing, although the sign says open until 10:30pm. She rudely tossed our menus on the table, got our silverware and left without saying anything. Then the waiter came to take our drink orders and give us our menus (I’m disappointed you don’t sell Jarritos). We were looking over the menu, he comes back a minute later and we explained we will need a few minutes to decide. He leaves then literally comes back a minute later, asking if we were ready. My husband explained that I’m pregnant so I was having a hard time deciding what I wanted and we needed another minute or so. He just stood there like he didn’t understand what we were saying and just said to us “Everything’s good” and waited there. It felt weird, like he was pressuring us to hurry up and order because he had something better to do. I got the Special Dinner because it had a variety of different foods, my husband got a poblano dish. The food came out so quickly that there’s no way it’s fresh. And it didn’t taste fresh, it tasted like it was reheated or frozen and heated then served. The masa on the tamal was so dry and tough, I could barely get thru it with my fork, so I only had one bite of that. There was so much sauce on my poblano that it soaked my nearby tostada shell so much, I couldn’t pick it up because it fell apart, so I had to eat my tostada with a fork and knife. The enchilada was not good so only had 2 bites of that, the rice and beans were just ok so I basically filled up on that. Didn’t care for the sauce on the poblano so I only had a few bites. The waiter was annoyed that we asked for a small plate for my 5 year old (i was sharing my food with him). My husband asked out loud “Did we do something wrong?” He was genuinely confused why the waiter was so rude about our request for a plate. If we need to pay extra to share, that’s perfectly fine, we aren’t trying to be slick or pull a fast one. But my son is only 5 and he is picky, so I would rather share my food with him than order his own meal and have food go to waste, it’s not about money, it’s about not wanting to waste food. 🍲 One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I’ve lived in Milford for almost 6 years and I cannot seem to find a good, authentic Mexican restaurant outside of Detroit. Very...
Read moreI have ordered from this establishment multiple times and it’s always been for the birria tacos. One time I ordered the meal, and the rest has been a la carte where I would order 2-3 tacos. Each time I ordered this I would ALWAYS receive the sauce that comes with it. Today, I ordered 2 birria tacos for pick up and when I got home I noticed the sauce was not included. I called the rest and let them know I didn’t receive the sauce. The person I spoke to said that I have to order 3 to receive it and anytime it’s less than 3 the sauce has to be requested. I explained to him that I have ordered only 2 birria tacos before and received the sauce. I’ve never had to request it! And that makes no sense bc this particular taco is popular because of the sauce that comes with it so people are ordering it for that alone, to eat it with the sauce!!! So after going back and forth, I asked him if I could get my order remade and receive the sauce? He said, I could come back for the sauce but they aren’t remaking my tacos (mind u I only had 2 birria tacos) takes them less than 5 min to make. I explained to him that if I come back for the sauce my food will be cold, therefore, I would like my order remade. I even told him I could bring my order back because I haven’t touched my food yet. He still proceeded to say that I could come back for the sauce but my tacos are fine so they wouldn’t be remaking it. I then asked to speak with the manager. He claimed to be the manager. In a final attempt, I explained again that I’ve NEVER had to ask for the sauce when ordering less than 3 birria tacos before and for this reason can my order be remade since my food will be cold by the time I come get the sauce. He said no. I asked him is he refusing to remake my order and he said, yes! I was not rude at all. I honestly feel as a manager, and just out of common courtesy and providing customer service to your customers, especially a repeat customer, he should have remade my order since I explained that in the past, I have never had to request the sauce. For that, I will NOT be returning and they will no longer receive my business.
There are multiple Mexican restaurants in the Novi/Wixom area. My advice, if you value customer service, choose another restaurant. Don’t give EL CAMINO your...
Read moreEl Camino is hands-down one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with warm smiles and a vibe that instantly makes you feel at home. The atmosphere is the perfect blend of lively and cozy – ideal for a night out with friends or a relaxed dinner date.
But let’s talk about the real star of the show: the Birria tacos. Absolutely phenomenal. The meat is melt-in-your-mouth tender, packed with flavor, and perfectly seasoned. Paired with the rich consommé for dipping, it’s an experience that will have you dreaming about your next visit before you even leave.
The service at El Camino is just as impressive as the food. The staff go above and beyond to make sure you feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for. They clearly take pride in what they do, and it shows in every interaction.
Whether you're a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and make a stop at El Camino. Incredible food, exceptional service, and an atmosphere that makes you want to stay all night. This place is...
