I really wanted to like this place, but am super disappointed. When I went in to order a birthday cake for my mom, the girl that took my order was not friendly at all. I asked for a red velvet cake, she told me they can’t do that, just vanilla or chocolate. Then the other girl behind the counter interrupts and says yes, they do red velvet, and hands me a menu with all the cake flavors and fillings. Great! I wanted a very simple cake, just some icing flowers on top in the colors of the invitation. I show a picture. The girl is again confused and says she needs the head chef to come out. He comes out and is also very unfriendly. He looks at the order and remarks, “oh, red velvet” and makes a face. Here we go again with the red velvet. I’m starting to get uncomfortable at this point, and ask if that’s a problem. He says no, since i’m picking up around valentine’s day it’s fine. Great! We discuss cake design, I pay and leave.
Now for my favorite part! I pick up the cake, it looks beautiful, no issues. When we go to eat the cake, I noticed the actual cake is very red in color, basically food coloring bright red, not the deep red you expect from a traditional red velvet cake. I just brushed it off until we all started to actually eat the cake. Come to find out, it was not even red velvet! It was a white cake dyed red to trick us into thinking it was red velvet. I’m still honestly flabbergasted that they thought we wouldn’t notice. Red velvet has a distinct cocoa flavor, and everyone that tried the cake agreed this was just vanilla cake. Unbelievable!
I gave this place a chance because it was half the price of all the other bakeries I reached out to. But I guess you get what...
Read moreThis used to be my go-to bakery for delicious treats and fair prices, but my recent experience was incredibly frustrating. I called for a simple custom 8 inch cake with a B&W photo and four black bows (which I’d provide) and was quoted $59.50. After emailing the details, I was told I needed a 10 inch cake to print the photo on it (fair enough) and to send the photo in B&W. Then came the confusion: after following up, I received a new quote of $89.50—including a surprise $10 charge for attaching the bows and “piping,” even though I requested only basic piping, which was supposedly included. I had to explain everything multiple times to different staff, despite having clearly outlined it in emails and calls. When I voiced my frustration, the owner condescendingly said, “OK then, $79.50,” no apology for the mishaps, nothing. I’ve always recommended this bakery to everyone and have been a loyal customer, but after this experience—and the complete lack of customer service—I won’t be doing that anymore. I don’t care about paying an extra $10, it was the lack of transparency and disregard for the customer’s time that made me take my...
