The Empanada Shop — Restaurant in Wood-Ridge

I have visited the Wood-Ridge location a few times. While I like that location, they opened up a location in Rutherford which is closer to me. Same company so at the Rutherford location, the empanadas are always fresh and delicious. I tried the Cuban sandwich today. Delicious but the bread has to be pressed like a panini to be a true Cuban sandwich. From the people who work at the Rutherford location to the owner Laurie, everyone is super nice and friendly. This is my new local hang out. The rice balls they sell there are awesome also. Super delicious. Who needs Chipotle when you have the Empanada Shop? Some suggestions for the Rutherford location? I would to see a suggestion box for customers. The Cuban sandwiches to be pressed. Punch cards, like loyalty cards so customers can earn points for free empanadas or something. Basically that’s it. I'm so sad to write this review, I've been coming here for my kids who in the beginning 4 years ago loved this place, have had several issues since, the owner is nice but absent allowing the inmates to run her place, she asked me to notify her if ever had any issues but it seems like every time I go there's an issue, no Cuban sandwich one day or no rice and beans another day, no tostones or no more beef empanadas, today was the last time I will ever return as the employees didn't even offer to bag my drinks, and the empanadas were so stiff and cold they tasted old ,I don't feel I should have to call the owner to tell her since I have my own job and I'm just looking to feed my kids with no stress, I love it's so close to where we live but anything else is just not worth it, sorry to say after more than 4 years today is the last time we will ever return, this place needs...

It's a very small shop. More favorable to an on-the-go crowd. There is a counter with stools if you choose to take a quick break here. I only saw two of the staff, who were fairly friendly. The guy who helped me was really patient as I gave a confusing order.

The empanadas were amazing. My coworkers loved them. One of them had a small complaint about the Three Cheese having little filling. But I wasn't surprised as that is my experience with any cheese filled empanada. The Buffalo Chicken was praised and the beef is said to be a bit spicy but very delicious. I had the Spinach and Mozzarella, which was stuffed to capacity. I love garlic flavor, but not eating actual garlic so I felt one of them was too garlicky. Tbh, I'd still buy it again.
