No complaints about the actual food. The staff is nice and friendly, but they may be understaffed with front of house and in the kitchen, which created a not so great dining experience.
When we arrived we were very excited because the pictures look great. We arrived at 12:55. We were sat immediately. There were 7 filled tables with a total of about 14 guests. Though we were sat right away and asked if we wanted water and tea, we didn’t receive the water until about 1:15 after I flagged down the waitress to inquire as to when it would arrive. She did apologize and we were served our water and tea shortly after.
When the water arrived, we took advantage of having the waitress at our table and ordered a caterpillar roll, shrimp tempura and tuna and cucumber roll.
We did want to try a few things, but the pacing and timeliness discouraged us from doing so we got items that we thought would be a bit quicker. We assumed an hour would be enough time to try a bunch things but not having been served until after 1:41, after being here for 40+ mins didn’t leave much time.
In an area with more than a few sushi options, this place offers service far below what you would get almost anywhere else, or at least...
Read moreWent with my husband and my mother to celebrate a special occasion with the Aoi Omakase 7 course meal. I have been searching for an authentic omakase experience for a while and I'm glad to say I finally found it right here in central jersey.
The chef was very friendly, and though his English is a little limited, he was fun to chat with. He trained under a Japanese sushi chef for four years in NYC before deciding to move to NJ to be closer to his family.
The appetizer consisted of four items, and each was super flavorful and thoughtfully constructed. The second item on the menu was a steamed egg in a deep seafood broth, with seafood and mushrooms in it. Amazing. The sushi was crafted painstakingly by the chef and delivered to each of us with a brief explanation of what it was and where from. Each bite was more delicious than the last, including chu toro, o toro, wagyu, and uni. All amazingly fresh, melt in your mouth.
We paired the meal with some sake and hot tea. It was the perfect omakase experience and I only wish I could afford to...
Read moreWent to this place on a whim craving sushi, well omokase. That being said i know most places around the area are not high end and often have medium quality sushi and variation this was a nice breath of fresh air. The restraunt was located inside the hotel so dont let that mislead you. The food was amazing the atmosphere although small was fitting and service was superb. The only thing that was underwhelming was the way the omokase was broughtout. Seeing people order the omkase it was brought to tables and bar seaters the same way and felt very unpersonalized making it more of a high end sushi dinner than an actual omokase expience. That being said the prices were on par with NYC prices and having food from both locals, I can say that the food was just a bit lower quality than the places in the city, which...
