I was blindsided when I arrived to this place for the first time, and I feel the need to warn people. This bakery ruined me. I was asked to run a pre-event errand for a friend: pick up a special-order cake. A simple task with epic repercussions. One day you can be a regular person who just makes regular sandwiches with sliced white bread (or maybe you like the occasional "bakery fresh" selection) and then suddenly you're a gremlin, scooping fistfuls of fresh sourdough straight out of the bag because the smell has taken ahold of your inhibitions and your car. There wasn't even time (nor need) for sandwich ingredients. What am I supposed to do, return to garbage, mass-produced, regular degular sliced playdoh-flavored plaingrain? I don't even live in this city and I'm now yearning for this incredible bread and fantasizing about the intoxicating smell that hits you all the way in the parking lot. And there was a cookie! I saw it in the case and I had to have it, and it vanished in 3 bites (despite the huge size) at the nearest stoplight. I don't know what kind of witchcraft this is but now I can't enjoy other cookies. I had a pretty decent chocolate chip that someone brought to the party but it paled in comparison to say the least. By the time I tasted the cake I had picked up, I assumed it would be delicious but I still did not expect it to be life-altering. I will legitimately never recover from the divine flavor of the thick cream that covered it, in fact the thought of it now evokes both happy and sad tears. If you are prepared to be disappointed by every baked good you will consume thereafter, then by all means go to...
Read moreYummy pastries and also natural home goods and gifts! I had a brown butter chocolate chunk cookie, a good size, ooey gooey inside and slightly crisp on the outside, huge chunks of chocolate, not too sweet, balanced by a sprinkle of salt. The caprese hand pie had intense tomato (dried?) and some of the cheese had leaked out and gotten crispy. Other items available when I visited late morning on a weekday: pimiento cheese scones, tarta de Santiago, pepper jack biscuits, triple ginger miso cookies, rye oatmeal raisin cookies, matcha shortbread, cinnamon rolls, and sourdough sandwich bread. There's also a good selection of home goods and gifts - cotton and linen aprons, beeswax candles and wraps, candlesticks, wooden spoons, trivets, kitchen towels, market bags, jars, jar grippers, seed cards, and more. Also some foodstuffs - honey, coffee, jams, chocolate, and house made granola. There's no seating area, it's takeout only at the time of...
Read moreTruly wow. I regret not getting photos, but once I had a bite of the pimento cheese scone, there was nothing to be done. Scones are typically dry, sad things, but this scone was soft and bursting with flavor. The chocolate chocolate cookie was just as incredible. I was expecting a typical cookie but instead took a mid-morning swim in a literal sea of gooey dark chocolate. I'm still thinking about it. I can't pick a favorite, but I do know that this was some of the best food I've eaten this year. Small, â¨curated⨠selection of treats with a (well deserved) higher price tag than other shops, and a lovely variety of local jams, honeys, and kitchen goods makes this bakery a must-visit for a last minute gift for your...
