El Vaquero Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Woodhaven

I was there a couple nights ago with 4 friends; we were all looking forward to trying out a new Mexican restaurant but that was our first and our last time dining there. We had the worst service that any of us have ever had at a restaurant before. I asked for a water with lots of lemons; when I got my water, it was with one very skinny lemon that I couldn't even squeeze into my glass. The waitress had to be asked 2 more times before I ever got more lemons. She asked if we were ready to order literally 1 minute after the last person in our party had arrived... She didn't even have a chance to look at the menu yet! When we were placing our order, more than one of us has to repeat what we wanted; I repeated my own order 3 times. When we got our food, they had to take all but one plate back to the kitchen to fix them. They ended up being ALL wrong... The one plate that didn't go back looked correct at first but it wasn't. One person ordered a California burrito with no beans, no lettuce and no Pico; that one ended up having beans in it and lettuce. The second person ordered the same burrito but with no rice, no guacamole and no Pico. The burrito had rice in it. The third person (who kept her plate because she thought it was right) ordered chicken chimichangas (which came with two) but when she cut into the second chimichanga she discovered that one was ground beef, not chicken. The fourth person ordered a la carte; two hard tacos and one enchilada. Originally they brought out three enchiladas and one hard taco then when they came back they brought out two hard tacos and three enchiladas which she had to send back AGAIN before she ever got the one and only enchilada that she ordered. When I placed my order, I asked specifically as to whether or not the chimichangas could be ground beef (because it only said beef tip or chicken in the menu) the waitress assured me that it could be ground beef so that's what I ordered with no sour cream, no tomato, no guacamole and I asked for a side of lettuce. This meal was also supposed to come with beans and rice. When they initially brought it out, it only had beans on the plate. When I got what looked to be the correct meal and cut into my chimichanga; it ended up being the shredded beef which pissed me off because if I knew I wasn't going to be able to get ground beef, I would have just ordered tacos instead. I didn't complain though because I figured it had already taken long enough for all of us to get the semi correct orders and just ate what I had even though I wasn't happy with it. No manager came to the table to talk to us about all of the mess-ups and nothing was said to us about discounting the bill or giving us a complimentary dessert for the troubles or anything like that. I have never been to a restaurant that has made a significant mistake without getting some kind of apology from the manager/discount/something on the house to make up for the problems! And on top of that, the food wasn't even very good... I'm not a big fan of shredded beef in my Mexican food so I didn't care for the flavors of my dish and the enchilada that my one friend got was disgusting! She wouldn't even continue eating it; I tried it and agreed with her that it was gross. The person who was supposed to get the two chicken chimichangas but ended up with a ground beef one didn't like the ground beef one and the two people that had the California burritos didn't think they were anything to write home about either! Between the staff completely failing and the food being subpar at best, none of us will return and we will make sure that everyone we know is aware of the experience we had there. Would have gave it another chance if they didn’t take it upon themselves to add 10$ onto my bill for a tip. Some would say that’s stealing. I’d check your bank accounts the next day to make sure they don’t decide to tip themselves more. At first impression it was a nice new place. Chips n salsa was good, food was decent. Except the steak in the fajitas. Prolly the worst tasting steak I’ve ever had. But that set aside stuff happens and I would have gave it a second chance. But they took it upon themselves to add more of a tip to my bill. Lucky it was only 10$ but the point of the is that’s wrong. And considering stealing. So check...

My wife and I were absolutely blown away by how good this place was! The drinks selection is huge and beyond creative! We highly recommend the Tequila Tree Tower. The food was amazing and flavorful and they have an abundance to choose from! The birria fries were incredible! The service was outstanding, our server Marco was very helpful and friendly and got us everything in a timely manner. We highly recommend this spot to anyone in the area and if you aren't in the area this place is more than worth the drive! This will be our new go to spot for...
