I really wish there was an option less than a star for this review. I have been to Hong Kong Island a couple of times since China Express in West Boylston closed down. I called in an order like i usually do and spoke to the Asian lady who usually attends to the register. I placed my order for my usual pork fried rice and said i wanted 4 large chicken wings. I wasn't told the total on the phone. I went in to pick up and the same Asian lady attended to me. She said my order was about $56 and i quickly objected. There had been a misunderstanding and she thought i meant 4 orders of Chicken wings. Clearly there was miscommunication. So i politely told her this is not what i was looking to get but instead wanted only 4 pieces and was sorry for the misunderstanding. She got very annoyed and started going off about the order and saying i need to pay for it regardless. I could pay for it, but her attitude was very foul so i wasn't going to. During her angry rhetoric she mentioned i should pay for 2 of the chicken orders because she will have to eat the rest as a loss. I was very shocked by the level of disrespect. I decided to go ahead and pay for 2 of the orders instead of one, as i was taking my money out she blurted out (you need to learn "the" English). Immediately, i was like, excuse me! You cannot speak to a paying customer that way. Another customer walked in at the time to witness this lady going off. I told her not to speak to me that way because i frequently buy from there and will not want this to be a reason i do not come back. She said "I don't care if you come back or not". I then realized it will be very foolish for me to give my money to a business owner that cares less and can be very disrespectful to her customers. I put my $40 back in my wallet and walked out. I drove to Miku Restaurant on 184 West Boylston St which just opened in West Boylston. I am so glad that this incident happened. The service was phenomenal and very quick and the food , oh my God is out of this world. I will never go to Hong Kong Island again, i am not asking anyone to avoid there either, but when someone who is struggling to form a sentence tells me with my multiple graduate degrees to go learn "the" English , i believe as a consumer it is my responsibility to let others know what to expect when you walk into those doors. This just happened today by the way. I hope she learns to be respectful to her customers and drop her pride. Attaching my order from Miku, was very affordable. They even gave me utensils without me asking for it or they getting grumpy like Hong Kong island, and everyone there is happy to see you and have your business. Go try there and you will see what i am talking about....
Read moreThere I was on a Tuesday around 2pm. Hungry from working all day and haven't ate anything since 6am. Where I stumble across this humble abode while going through door dash. Between the wide food options and not bad prices, I was set on giving this place a shot. I ordered a special noodle dish from the lo mein section. It came with every type of meat, broccoli, and noodles of course. After the long grueling wait for the delivery to come. I finally got my order. Eager from hunger I ripped open the bag with excitement and ferocity. Forks went flying packets of soy sauce to the floor I was ready to devour this meal like a hungry lion. What I bit my teeth into instead of disappointment and neglect. The "lo mein noodles" were in fact chow mein. The noodles despite being styled wrong looked quite crispy. I took a bite and immediately spit it back out as these stale packing peanuts of a noodle made me immediately gag. I moved on to the main portion of the dish the meats n veggies. Praying to whatever you believe in that It would make up for the noodles. What I was met with was okay cooked and seasoned food but doused in a sauce that can only be described as liquid cardboard. No amount of soy sauce or duck sauce could save this dish. But there it was on the table the last glimmering hope to have something good. The fortune cookie. I salivate at the sight of it. Gently put it in my hands and ever so slight tore the edges of the package to not damage it. As I tried to bite into this little wise cookie. I cried at the taste of this bland stale piece of cardboard in the shape of a cookie. This experience was awful and in order to get over this awful meal. I will go home after work and chug a bottle of vodka to get the taste of stale cardboard out...
Read moreBeen going to this place for over 20 years. It’s hands down the best Chinese food I’ve ever had. Even though I moved away, I still stop in when I’m in Worcester. Haven’t been in a while. I got a #6 (sweet and sour chicken, rice, rangoons)Wow has it changed. I noticed immediately by the look of the bag that the portion size was about 1/3 less than I’m used to seeing. When I got home and opened it, yup. Smaller portion. I also noticed the chicken fingers were thin and soggy. Not plump and crisp like they used to be. The sweet and sour sauce was bland, it used to be sweet and packed with fruit. The crab rangoons tasted like cream cheese, where they used to have a excellent crab/filling ratio. The rice was the same, which I’m thankful for. I’ve read a lot of recent reviews from longtime customers stating that the flavors and food had changed. And that it may be under new ownership. It’s clear the new owners are trying to save a buck and skimp on what made this place a staple of the burncoat area for 30 years. They’re not going to last long by doing that. Hopefully the smarten up and bring it back to what made that place the best Chinese food for an entire community. You guys...
