This is the closest you'll get to Tex-Mex in Worcester County (trust me - I'm from Texas). I ordered the pork enchiladas moles and refried beans.
I got four enchiladas for $7.95 which was a good deal, and they tasted very good. The pork was nice and moist. And can we talk about shredding pork for a minute, please? Some people don't shred it enough and it's just like one large chunk in your enchilada. That makes it difficult to eat, and it requires you actually having to use your knife. Who has time for that? Some people over shred their pork, which is great for tamales, but it makes me a tiny bit nervous that maybe it didn't come from a part of the pig that I want to be eating. Ever heard of barbacoa? It's a great in tacos, but I only want to eat bizarre foods on purpose. Anywho, I like how Sol shredded their pork. It was somewhere right in the middle.
The set-up is a counter style restaurant with a few tables inside and some outside on the sidewalk patio. The guy working behind the counter told me he lived in Houston for a while and is in school for restaurant management. He's working with the owners to draw a crowd so they have live music some nights (Friday maybe?). The colors in the restaurant were garishly bright and tacky, which actually made it feel more authentic. The employees were very friendly. The guy from Houston told me that they plan to add more dinners onto the menu like chiles rellenos. It sounds like they are doing a lot to improve the place. I will go back there very soon.
Here are a few reasons I gave it a four instead of five: Rice and beans didn't come with my entree order. That's a standard where I come from. I envision half of you rolling your eyes thinking, "fatty" - and you are correct. But that's okay because I'm from Texas, remember? Everything is bigger there, especially the people. In Sol's defense, I should probably get over this because I'm not in Kansas - I mean Texas - anymore. And this is supposed to interior Mexican, not Tex-Mex. But still y'all...I want my rice and beans!
The beans were asi-asi (so-so for you Northern folk) and needed salt. That's right. I said it. MORE SALT. Come'n'git me Michelle Obama! Society has turned everyone into sodium-haters, but good lord - when I go to eat Mexican food, the last thing I'm thinking about is my health...or my dignity for that matter.
The truth is that I would've given them three stars in Texas, but I don't want to hurt their ratings. I mean, I'm the first to rate this restaurant, and this is the closest thing to real Tex-Mex in Worcester. I want this place to continue to stay in business. Everyone needs to know that its better than all the other junk that's out there.
HEY WORCESTER - Y'ALL NEED TO GO TO SOL! SEE...
Read moreFood: I ordered beef tostada and beef fajitas which was very delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful with peppers, and onions. They give you 4 tortillas to make into your own little tacos. The rice was moist and flavored accordingly and the toppings like the fried bean and guacamole was good. Sour cream was bit watery and the tostada does get soggy with all the toppings on the top but nonetheless still good. Tres leche is pretty sweet and I recommend eating it refrigerated
Service: Food was made quickly and they made sure I had everything
Ambiance: it’s a lot smaller inside like perhaps 6 people can sit and there some outdoor seating but not much to work with.
Location accommodation: Parking is side street parking and it’s in a corner of a one ways street so be careful if...
Read moreCame here for a quick dinner and WOW!! This is one of the best Mexican places I've ever been to in the northeast.
The entire menu was tantalizing, but I have a weakness for chimichangas and they were running them as a special. There was just so much depth of flavor in the sauce and the meat. Portion sizes were perfect. I think the only chimichanga I've had that could even come close to this one was $17, so I made out like a bandit for $12. Only suggestion is I wish I had the option to make it a bit spicier.
The place comes across very unassuming at first, but I was completely blown away by the food. Oh, and they have a pretty impressive selection of Jarritos!...
