I've visited for brunch twice. Both times the food (biscuits and gravy, farmers panini) was good! The items are pretty overpriced. They have a variety and some unique options but for the quality and location the prices don't make a lot of sense. For the two breakfast orders, two coffees, and an espresso martini the bill was 75+ (yes, you are charged a credit card fee even at this price). There's a 3% surcharge added. I know a lot of places did this after being closed during the pandemic. This place wasn't even open then and this isn't downtown Chicago. Just doesn't make sense. First visit I ordered a flavored latte and there was way too much syrup in it. I ordered a shot of espresso to try and fix it because it had been awhile for the server to check on us and I'd already drank some. The shot was $4 and about half what my Nespresso shot at home amounts to (the small shot option). After waiting so long to get it we'd all already finished our food and I didn't want to take longer to finish the drink. I didn't mention this because I didn't want to wait for them to adjust the bill too. Second visit we sat at our table for what seemed like at least 15mins before I finally asked someone if they could help us find out who our server was. I'm not sure if the person who ended up covering our table was the same server who was originally supposed to cover the table we were at or not because I had tried to make eye contact with her earlier when I was trying to get help with service and she did not come over. She was lovely and there was no issue from there. Food was delivered timely, at a decent temperature, and it was very good. I got sourdough for the panini and loved it! We were a table of two and when we received our check we were told the gratuity is included on the bill. Kind of odd given we were only a party of two and I honestly can't remember if it was like this during the first visit (party of four) or not. We were definitely planning to tip but having it added on, especially after not having service for the first 15+ mins rubbed me the wrong way. I have been a server before and would never deny a decent tip over the experience we had because I understand all the factors at play here. It was surprising we were being forced gratuity as customers in this situation. Being offered to have had our coffees comped or even not being offered anything but leaving gratuity up to us would have been better (we would've left a larger tip). If this was to make sure we left a tip after having waited, I can't agree with it. I'm all for sticking up for your staff and love that, but that responsibility falls on the business, not on the supporting customers who stayed even though we were watching quite a few parties seated after us being greeted and taken care of first. The aesthetics have an urban chic vibe that we really enjoyed. The music is loud, I honestly can't remember what was playing. So just depends on what atmosphere you're looking for with that. As I mentioned we were waiting quite a while and so ended up chatting up the table next to us. They had ordered the 18th St dip, said its a little spicy and so good, and birria tacos. They said those were good too. There are adult bevvys but no bar seating. Fingers crossed this changes as we had a little wait before we could be seated and it would've been really to enjoy the vibes and have some drinks during the wait. I don't think this place will become a regular go to spot for me but I also wouldn't be against visiting again.

Read moreI was going to give it 4 stars but I hate it when they add a 20% gratuity even before they present the bill. Our meal was $35.00 total, before taxes, which were $3.59. Total bill, $46.75, right? WRONG!!! They already ordered $8.00 gratuity and I went ahead and tipped another $10.00 on top of the tax AND THEIR PRESUPPOSED GRATUITY. I tipped $17.00 on a meal that cost $35.00. Who does that? The food was pricey, but good. Not great, but good. The restaurant is very clean, in including the men's room. The staff is friendly and efficient but we waited 55 minutes for our food, which wasn't all that special. I expected better, am disappointed in what I got, and was blindsided by their taking liberties with my right to tip as I wished. I'll go back but I will scrutinize the check before tipping on my own. .............................................. Back again today for lunch. In my previous review (above), I said I'd be back, today, for a 4th time. I really want to like this place but there so much mitigating against that. I ordered the Northside Lox and Bagel with cream cheese, capers and onion. What I got was 8 "toast points", a sliver of salmon folder in a cylinder with some parsley sticking out of it. and a lump of cream cheese, sans capers and onion. Very disappointed. Spoke with the owner who offered me more "toast points". Very little concern on his part. I told him that if he lasts here more than 2 years that it will be a miracle. Very pricey for what you get (20:00 dollars for eight toast points), etc. Over and above the mandatory 20% tip, i gave the waiter an extra tip. Too bad, but I've learned my lesson. They'll be out of business...
Read moreI’ll start with saying the decor and atmosphere walking in here was awesome. My friend and I were super excited because I loved all the good things I had heard. My 2 first minor issues were when I asked for mayo with the burger I got when I put it on there this did not taste like mayo . Wasn’t even the consistency of mayo. I asked the server we had if the mayo was mixed with anything and he’s like no I don’t think so. Didn’t offer to check or offer another option. Also the drink I ordered was a mojito and definitely tasted more like just alcohol and pineapple juice. The server we had did not seemed thrilled at all to be there and not the friendliest. I get it , I have been in retail my entire life maybe your having a bad day or maybe you just don’t wanna be there but could’ve been a little friendlier. Our biggest issue was the check … So I get that times are expensive and it’s the service industry but at least should be stated that there is 20% added . We got charged for cheese on one of our burgers even though it came with cheese , so he apologized and had to take that charge off . Then they charge a fee for using your credit card so we had to have him adjust that because we were paying cash. Then once he came back with the cheese adjustment and the credit card adjustment he then added a new credit card fee AGAIN even though we stated we were paying cash the first time. All in all the food was just ok , drink ok , service ok. I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately we will...
