This place is going downhill! I wrote a review previously praising this restaurant and that Ellen is wonderful. Ellen is still wonderful, she is not the issue!
Over the last 4 weeks I have stopped here every morning on my way to work. I come thru around 6:50am. I work in downtown Reading so this is plenty of time to stop and get my oatmeal and go to work.
Not the case anymore. If you go thru the drive through you sit between 10 to 20 minutes. I have already sat at the speaker box 10 min before they take the order. The way it is set up. Once in line, you're stuck in line unless you are at the outside lane but if u give your order and move up, now you are stuck!
Today I sat in the outside lane for 10 min not moving and they hadn't taken my order yet. I left the line, circled, parked and went in. I ordered oatmeal and a large sweet tea.
Mistake because I became angry at what I saw and heard. Five customers standing waiting for their food complaining amongst each other about the length of time they have been standing there waiting for food.
One man told the manager that 20 minutes for a sandwich is ridiculous and a woman spoke up and said I ordered a Sausage Muffin, OJ and coffee and I am waiting 18 min. All the manger said was Sorry.
While this is going on a man came in behind me. They took his order and stepped back to wait. 1 person waiting got his food. Then the manager starts opening another register so he is busy punching info into register. Now there is no one in there to place an order and even if there was, there was already 1 register open. Now you have 2 people standing behind registers and neither one has taken it upon themselves to step up and help fill orders. They are chatting amongst themselves and the manager is walking around really doing nothing. He looks busy but he really is doing nothing. I ask for a cup for my tea so I can get that a while. Cashier was not happy that I interrupted.
A woman goes up and says I have been here 20 min now, I need to get to work, where is my food? Manager asks what did u order? She hands him the receipt and he grabs a platter of some sort, puts it in a bag sits it down in front of her and walks away. She says, excuse me, where is my coffee and OJ? He turns to her, rolls his eyes and gets her the drinks.
I have been here 20 min now between sitting in drive thru and then inside. The guy looks at me and says, did you order oatmeal? Yes! He responds, we are working on it. He does the same thing to the other 2 people standing with me waiting (1 before me and 1 after)
A woman comes in then and 1 cashier looks at her and grabs a black container from under the counter and walks in back. The other cashier is turned with her back to us making coffee. The manager looks at her and then looks at the screen with the orders on it and ignores her.
I see my oatmeal sitting on the counter by the coffee machines that the cashier is filling. The manager tells her something and she picks it up and says Who ordered oatmeal? I step up, she sits it on the counter and turns back around. I ask, Can I have a bag? She grabs a spoon and tosses next to the oatmeal. I ask again, Can I have a bag? She turns looks at me, huffs her chest, grabs a bag and tosses it at me on the counter. I just shook my head grab all of it and left.
When I left there was still one person that was there before me and the man right after me waiting for food. The last woman to come in had not given her order yet.
As I drive out to rush to get to work before my start time of 730 I see that the car I was orifinally behind in the drive thru is just getting to the second window for food. So in the time that I was inside the 4 cars that were in front of him are the only ones to be given food
It was not like this before. It was fast at one time. It seems to be getting worse every week.
If you go here leave your house a half hour earlier just to be safe so you are not late or rushing to work.
This McDonalds needs to get their act together! 20 min for oatmeal and...
Read moreI came here one night to get my 3 boys Happy Meals when we were on our way to the hospital. Right around 730ish. Only 1 car in the lot building looked empty no one in the drive through. I cruised through, sat at the order machine, I said hello not once but twice, nothing. Finally right as I was certain they were closed for some reason and had prepared to drive away, the girl came on. She was laughing so hard she couldn't even ask for my order. Finally she got it together and asked for it, not once, not twice, but three times before she had seemly got the complexity of it down. Three boys happy meals, all 4 price nuggets with yogurt and Dr. Peppers no ice. Then 2 McDoubles only ketchup and cheese, a medium Dr Pepper and root beer, also no ice. I came around, paid, and went to the second window. I sat there for ages before someone finally came to the window, they tried handing me (the only person in the front seat) all 5 drinks with no carrier... then got seemingly bothered when I asked for one, handed it to me (without the drinks) and then handed me the drinks. I filled it up figuring till I was done they'd be handing me my food, but no. I sat there again waiting, I actually thought they forgot my order. Finally I get my bag and three kids meals. I drive off, head to the reading hospital and cart 3 kids, ages 8, 3 and 2 into this building, bringing with my friends car seat, all the food and drinks (thankfully my 8 year old helped with them). We got up to the 2nd floor sat down at the waiting room table and opened our food. What do we find? 2 kid's meals entirely lacking nuggets, only fries and warm yogurt... my McDoubles? They had everything on them, the opposite of what I asked for. So called, I explained that I had just been there, and that I was currently walking around this hospital to find good for my kids since they couldn't eat the happy meals they had earned on good behavior. They tell me they had my order here waiting, but who's order had I gotten? There was no one else there from all I saw. I said I wasn't about to drag them all back out in their cold, they told me if I came back after I left the hospital they would remake the order. Or I could come back the next day. What good does that do at 930 at night, and I had things to do the next day. I stopped in on my way home and asked if I could just get a gift card for the issue and come back when I pleased, nope, that was "against store policy." She offered me a value meal coupon instead... I asked for the manager she claimed to be the manager so I asked for her boss took her 10 minutes to come back with a napkin with a lady's name on it in the store phone number.. I called in the next day and was offered pretty much the same thing to remake the kids meals that day and 3 coupons for value meals. Wasn't thrilled. I still have many trips I will have to make to the NICU, sadly. And I will avoid this...
Read moreEven a vigilante's patrol requires logistical support. My mission led me to this McDonald's, a 24-hour outpost that serves as a reliable refueling station at any hour. The objective was simple: procure rations for my young ward, Robin. However, even the most routine operations can encounter unexpected variables. Upon securing the "Happy Meal," I initiated standard protocol: a full inventory of the contents. It was then I discovered a critical mission failure—the sweet and sour sauce was unaccounted for. A minor detail to some, but to a detective, every detail matters. I conducted an immediate field investigation. Presenting myself to the operatives while still sitting at drive-thru window two, I inquired about the missing asset. They initially stated the sauce was already in the container. This required a presentation of the evidence; I held up the open Happy Meal box, revealing the clear absence of the requested condiment. To their credit, the staff rectified the situation with professional courtesy, promptly providing two packets of the sauce and a "thank you." This swift corrective action is more than one can ask for from most such establishments.
BatmanJawn's Detective Tips: Verify All Assets: Before leaving the area of operations, always conduct a thorough check of your order. A missing sauce today could be a missing Batarang tomorrow. Vigilance is key.
Utilize the 24-Hour Advantage: This location’s round-the-clock operational status makes it a tactical choice for missions that extend into the twilight hours. Crime doesn't sleep, and neither does the need for fries.
Observe Your Surroundings: The ample parking and clear lines of sight provide multiple options for discreet ingress and egress.
BEWARE OF... Logistical Oversights: While the staff was courteous in correcting the error, the initial lapse in order accuracy is a data point. Always assume a margin of error and be prepared to follow up. In my line of work, assumptions are a liability.
Final Verdict: A near-flawless operation, marred only by a minor logistical oversight. The professionalism demonstrated by the staff in correcting the error was commendable. The facility is clean and strategically valuable due to its constant operational readiness. However, the initial failure in protocol prevents a perfect score. Rating: 🦇🦇🦇🦇 (Four out of five bats. A reliable outpost, but one that requires you to confirm your...
