The Search Is Over: A New Englander Finds His Slice in Yakima
As a Massachusetts transplant, I’ve spent nearly a decade searching for a good neighborhood pizza spot in Yakima —something that could even resemble the places and pies I grew up with back home. I’m talking about the charred crust of Pizzeria Regina, the legend of Frank Pepe’s, even a humble round from Papa Gino’s.
“Where can a guy go around here to watch the Patriots and enjoy a solid slice?” The question haunted my Sundays.
Everywhere I turned, I found doughy, floppy slices with ketchup-sweet sauce and cheese that looked like it belonged on nachos. After years of disappointment, I’d all but given up.
Until today.
For $60, I fed a family of five with leftovers. Two XL pizzas (sausage and pepperoni), 18 buffalo wings, drinks all around, and great service from start to finish. The place was spotless, the TVs were sharp, the music was solid, and the kids dove into the arcade.
Oh, and the pizza: With good pizza, you know as soon as you pick it up. Light — almost airy — sturdy enough to hold itself, and too hot to bite into so fast, though you do it anyway.
When I picked the first slice of sausage pizza, I bid a fond farewell to the roof of my mouth.
Dare I say it, the pizza has something East Coast to it; a Boston accent, if you will. Two pizzas in, I ordered a third to take home.
As a bonus: It just so happened to be Thursday, which apparently means $2 beers — any beer. Local, import, domestic, cider, seltzer — you name it. Talk about feeling at home.
After years of searching, I’ve finally found my Yakima neighborhood pizza spot. We’ll be back, and often. After all, the Celtics are looking really...
Read moreWe (my wife and I) were looking for something different in a pizza place and found Flame and Brew on an internet search. I’m glad we did. It’s not a fancy, upscale kind of place, but it is a spacious, clean and well-organized restaurant, easily accessible from the adjacent streets. Once inside, we were greeted by the owners, who took the time to answer our questions, explain their pizza, and make sure we got what we wanted. We ordered a large Combination and were rewarded with a tasty and well-balanced pizza. Great crust and ample amounts of toppings, with the right ratio of cheese. And I always love the small cupped pepperoni! We both got full and were able to take a few pieces home for later. The good news is that even reheated in the microwave (I know - that is an awful way to reheat good pizza….), this pizza was still very good and the crust holds up well the entire time. We are not Yakima residents, but we go there every month or so to stock up on groceries and things. This establishment will be a “go-to” when we want excellent food at a good price. Looking forward to trying out the wings, as well as some of the other pizzas on the menu. Make time to give Flame and...
Read moreFlame and Brew is a fantastic spot for a family gathering in Yakima. Their wood-fired pizza is outstanding — the dough feels “alive” with deep, rich flavors that you just don’t get at your average pizza place. You can really taste the care that goes into it.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with plenty to keep kids entertained too. There’s a big chalkboard for drawing, Mario Kart to play, and even a punch machine for some fun. It’s clear they’ve thought about making it a place where families can relax and enjoy themselves.
But the highlight here is definitely the pizza. I honestly don’t mind spending a bit more for this level of quality — but the great part is that the prices are actually super reasonable for what you get. It’s an amazing value, and my whole family loved every bite.
If you’re looking for a laid-back place with delicious food and a family-friendly vibe, I highly recommend Flame and Brew. We’ll...
