I hired Providence to make our wedding cake as I had heard many wonderful things about the bakery. Boy, was I mistaken. The day before the wedding, my husband picked up the cake and sent me a photo. My jaw dropped with what the picture revealed. I ordered a round cake with fondant icing and a pearl border. The picture revealed a square cake with regular icing and extremely large (gum-ball size) pearls. I immediately called the bakery and asked to speak to the manager. According to the associate, the manager was busy. I explained my concerns to the associate who then put me on hold for 10 minutes while she relayed my message to the manager. Even after that, the manager was still "unavailable" to speak with me. I asked the associate what they could do to make this right as my wedding was less than 24 hours away at that point. The associate explained that they did not have enough time to make another cake. By this time, I was furious. Providence's only rebuttal was that the color of the cake and the flavor were correct and that was the best that they could do. When I explained that wasn't good enough, the associate placed me on hold again. She then came back and said that the manager would give me $15 dollars off of my next purchase for their mistake. My blood was boiling! As many of you know, $15 does not go far at this bakery. You might be lucky to get a cupcake out of the deal. So essentially, the manager/owner never took responsibility for their mistake and ruined my wedding cake. Providence took no ownership in this whole ordeal. Now, I understand mistakes are made but as a customer, I expected them to make it right and they did not. I told the associate I would inform all of my friends as well as write this review to inform customers/future customers to beware. The "icing on the cake" to this whole ordeal was that when I returned from my honeymoon, the manager left me a voicemail (I guess she was finally ready to speak to me) and offered me a refund for the cake. At that point, it was too late to make things right. I couldn't believe it had taken them over a week to think about what they had done and tried to patch things up. Typically I am not one to complain, but I could not believe my experience with them and wanted to share this...
Read moreI went to this place with my daughter to buy a treat as we are new to the area and are looking for a decent bakery to purchase cakes. Something to celebrate the purchase of our new home. The designs in the case are up to my standard for sure. So when the lady came out I asked her to tell me what flavors she had available as cupcakes since there were no posted boards stating any of it. With an eye roll I was told what she had and I named off what Iâd like. I ran my card as chip (which said chip read error so we had to do tap to pay). No biggie. Then I asked another question or two regarding flavors etc so I could order a cake in the future if it wasnât too dry or too sweet. When I got the flyer and headed out the door she moved on to another customer where comments were made to the tune of âfinallyâ and some eye rolls. Like my business wasnât as important as the other person who entered after me. I almost said something then and there and left my purchase, but thought maybe it was the other customer more than the worker.
When we got home and tried the cupcakes the cake was fine. Very basic, nothing great other than it wasnât dry, but nothing Iâd ever write home aboutâŠbut the icing. Iâve had buttercreams that were too sweet (majority of buttercreams are too sweet for me) Iâve had buttercreams that taste like straight crisco and powdered sugar, Iâve NEVER (until now) had buttercream that tastes like pure butter with no or way too little sugar ratio. Thank goodness I didnât splurge for any of the full size cakes. Such a disappointment as we really would love to find someone to provide the special cakes in our life (especially when we are used to paying a few hundred dollars for custom designed birthday cakes) but I guess for now Iâll turn up my sleeves and bake our 3 birthday cakes this summer (including my own) because I can do a lot...
Read moreSo I went here to buy a birthday cake for my wife. She loves cake.....if nothing else, just a good cake will make her happy for a whole year! My mother In law does some research on bakeries in the area and suggested I give it a try. She called a couple of days ahead but was told she needed to stop by and pick something out of the case as there was not enough notice to make a cake for a birthday (ok, but how long ago were the cakes in the case made?! đ±). So the day before her birthday I decided to make the 45 minute ride to check out the cakes in the case. The lady at the counter was friendly and as I asked, explained the cakes, icing, filling. Each cake was decorated for fall or thanksgiving. I picked out a cake with with real buttercream icing that had white exterior, nuts, berries, pumpkins, and leaves. I believe the cost was close to $50 since I had to pay extra for using a credit card. I asked the lady if she could have the cake made into a birthday cake for me, the thanksgiving theme just wasnât screaming âHappy Birthdayâ to me. She said âof course!â And took the cake in the back. A minute later she came out with the cake in a box. I thanked her and left. When I arrived home, I opened the box and choked as I laughed hysterically. They literally just put a âHappy Birthdayâ stick on top of the cake. So much for the âhave it your wayâ mentality that most small business owners would swear by! The cake and filling were delicious but everyone was sadly disappointed at the crisco taste in The âreal buttercream icingâ. After reading reviews post this ordeal, I think I had my fill of this...
