Indian food is my favorite type of cuisine. I'd heard good things about Shrimp Flavours, and finally got the opportunity to sit down for dinner at their restaurant.
The interior is small and casual, with a surprising amount of seating considering the tight quarters. The staff were extremely nice. Their menu has something for everyone. I got the butter chicken with a side of garlic naan and a mango lassi to share, and my partner got the chicken vindaloo. One thing to note is that my partner has Celiac disease, so he asked if his food would be gluten free. The staff were able to reassure us that his meal would cater to his dietary restrictions (100% gluten free) and he would be able to dine safely, which was great. Normally when we ask at most places, we get an "I don't know", so we really value restaurants that are transparent about allergens (as they should be!).
The portion sizes were big and I had enough leftover for lunch the next day. Both of our meals were delicious! Extremely flavorful, well spiced, good heat level, and the chicken was tender, the naan was nice and fluffy, the rice was cooked perfectly. The mango lassi was the best I'd ever had. A staff member who I assume was the owner/manager checked up on everyone who was dining in, and he was very nice. I appreciated that he made sure everyone was enjoying their meals, too.
Normally for high quality Indian food we would need to drive all the way to Ann Arbor, which given our location, is at least a 30 minute drive. Now we can go to Ypsi which is much closer and the food is wonderful! I'll happily recommend this place to anyone in search of quality Indian food. I definitely will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStopped by with a group of friends after moving a very heavy piano. My hunger after a long day of moving was growing rapidly like the rates of interest in the housing market. I took a look at the menu, full of many great foods, but I yearned for the Butter Chicken and Cheese Naan after hearing great things about it. We didn't have to wait too long for a larger group of people, and once my food came, I was in utter disbelief of how beautiful this butter chicken looked. Never in my 44 divided by 2 years of life, have I ever seen a plate so divine. So perfect. My eyes glistened, my mouth is watering beyond comprehension. I took a bite of the rice and butter chicken with the cheese naan, and boy oh boy, let me tell you something. I was reminded of a familiar feeling. The feeling that you get when you think back to the good times of august 2012, or the first time you see the movie "Napoleon Dynamite". Just like Tina the Alpacca from the movie, I felt like fat lard the way I DEVOURED that butter chicken. Yummy yummy all in my tummy. I don't know if I'll ever feel this feeling again, and you're probably asking yourself: "can't you just come here again?". Well unfortunately, my flight for Melbourne leaves in 3 hours, meaning I can never feel this feeling again. I will be empty for the rest of my life, but I'm thankful for the moment to have been able to enjoy and savor this butter chicken for the 2 minutes it was on my plate. 10/10, would recommend....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI love India food, and this place is amazing!!! Shrimp š¦ Flavors Indian Cuisine, One of the best Authentic Indian restaurants, if not thee best, in Washtenaw County. I have had the Chicken tikka masala twice and the butter Chicken once. I loved it everytime, so full of flavor, the chicken was tender and the rice was cooked perfectly. I have gotten Garlic š§ Naan with each meal and it is perfection!!! They give you different spice level options, I like spicy food and the medium is what I have gotten and has a good kick. Spice level is different for everyone though, so whatever your comfortable with, start with that.
I have gotten pick up all 3 times but the dinning area looks very warm and inviting, so I will be going in at some point to see if it seems as good as it looks! Keep in mind they close at 3 pm and then reopen 5 pm, this is typical for moat Indian restaurants I have been too. Believe me , this is a good thing, that's how you get all these great flavors because they are cooking that days dinner for those 2 hours, Flavor!!!!
The pricing is very fair and typical of Indian restaurants I have had, plus the portion size is very sizable, you will most likely have leftovers. You could even spilt a entree between 2, especially if you got an appetizer or soup. I can't wait to try more of this menu, especially the lamb vindaloo. I will be back again and again and...
