This was my first time coming here and the food was good, but the waitress was indifferent towards me as I was the only black person in there. She barely came to my table, she offered the two tables right next to me if they wanted extra soup to take home and she gave them both large containers of their soup. She never offered me if I wanted any extra soup to take. She dropped one of my egg rolls on the table, picked it up with her bare hands and placed on my plate, like I was going to still eat it. I had another waitress make me another order and take those away. I am very disappointed in my experience here. I came here because of the rave reviews I read on their website today. I won’t be back. Also, when the male waiter brought my soup to the table she immediately came over and placed my bill on the table. The other female waitress saw what she did and came and removed it and took it back where the registers were. She didn’t bring the other customers bill to their table until they were finished eating. She also never asked me if I wanted anything to drink besides water, but she asked the other customers. This is the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant. She should not be serving anyone because she clearly cannot disguise her disdain for African Americans. I went up to front to pay my bill and she followed me up there because I didn’t leave a tip on the table. I asked the other waitress to give me some change, so I could go place a tip on the table. I started walking back to my table and she blocked me and took the money out of hand and put it in the register. She is a horrible person. Even with all of her stupidity I still left her a tip because I wanted to be the bigger person. When they go low, you go high. She need to be retrained or removed from...
Read moreI took my wife here as a surprise for her birthday - she didn't know where we were going and I know that she likes to eat noodles for her birthday. Based on the reviews, I was hopeful that this would be a darn close experience to the "real thing", or, at least what she enjoys about eating hand-pulled noodles back in China.
From the moment we walked in, I could see on her face that she was in for a treat. Her excitement was palpable as we were welcomed with the smells that she knew meant the food was going to be awesome. Our server was extremely polite and immediately offered us cold and hot water (I really appreciate places that offer water first). She even gave us hints on how we should go about eating our food (how using vinegar and chili oil would enhance the experience) and she wasn't wrong. We both ordered the original beef noodle bowl and a side of scallion pancakes. The bowls are rather big but don't fret as this means you'll likely be taking some broth and noodle home! The flavor was fantastic and dare I say didn't need the addition of vinegar or chili oil (of course, we added it nonetheless coz why not?). The noodles were the perfect consistency with the right size and bite. The scallion pancakes were fluffy and crispy and the dipping sauce alongside it really elevated the flavor. I even got a taro milk tea - some of the boba were a bit undercooked but the flavor was decent.
My wife and I made a pact to return to Lan City at least once a month - if not more frequently. I cannot wait to try everything else on the menu.
I strongly recommend visiting this gem of a place - it was a great experience and one we wish to have...
Read moreThis place is very worthy of a 5 star, however, they earned a 3 from me because of the service we recieved. First, the food was amazing! The noodles had a great texture and were very satisfying to eat. We ordered the duck and beef. We also ordered the Leek Pocket appetizer and that was great as well. The food was really really good. So why did it get a 3 star? Well, to start, when greeted, we were immediately pointed to a small table next to the door, across from the server station and where people walk in and out (front door). It was a particularly cold night and I didn't enjoy getting a whiff of cold air everytime someone walked in or left. That was a knock but not a huge one. Another thing was service. We were rotated by 3 different servers. No one was really ours. We just kind of felt lost. The food wasn't explained to us and we were never asked what kind of noodles we wanted. We read on the bottom of the menu (after we placed our order) that we get a choice of 3 types of noodles. I guess the server just put in whatever she felt like. My water was not filled, even though the server came by, dropped off our check, had the pitcher of water in her hand (!!), and walked away. About 5 minutes later a different server came by and filled my water. Again, we just felt like we were "extra" like almost a waste of space and just a table that needs to hurry up and go. Such a shame for it being our first time. I definitely want to come back and try again. Next time, I hope they treat us like the good paying guests that we are and not just some random folk who need...
