Zephyr Books & Coffee — Restaurant in Yreka

I recently visited Zephyr Books and Coffee in Yreka, California, drawn in by the unique combo of books and coffee. The shop itself has a charming small-town feel, and I ordered a latte and a raspberry scone, which were both decent – not exceptional, but good enough for a cozy coffee break.

Unfortunately, my experience took a turn with the customer service. While taking a brief phone call on speaker (the shop was empty), the owner came over and very sternly asked me to switch off speakerphone. I understand this policy in a busier setting, but the store was completely quiet, and my call was only momentary. This felt unnecessarily harsh and, frankly, unwelcoming. I had planned to stay longer, especially as I was waiting for friends who were in town for a memorial, but this interaction made me leave sooner. Losing a paying customer over something like that didn’t seem like good business sense.

The book selection also left a lot to be desired. The shelves seemed a bit disorganized, with no clear labels for sections and a lack of modern titles. For a bookshop, this was disappointing.

Best coffee shop in Yreka! The coffee is delicious! The baked goods are amazing and made fresh in house! They have an excellent selection of teas as well. The owners are delightful! They have a nice offering of new and used books and can also order any they don't have with arrival in a very timely fashion. We love their charming and unique handmade stuffed animals too! They have hedgehogs, elephants, cats, owls etc. and they are too cute for words! We love hanging out at Zephyr, it's a cozy little place to come and sit...

I visited Zephyr Books & Coffee in Yreka on 4/23/25. In addition to serving Northbound Coffee Roasters from Mount Shasta, they have a menu of deli foods and baked goods, all are which are made in house. They also have a good selection of used books, as well as brand new books that are region specific. Barista Zach was very friendly and helpful. He made me an excellent Mocha. If I lived in or near Yreka, Zephyr is the kind of place I would become a regular at.
