we called from the road coming from the coast inland via the mountainous California trail, we took a gas clerks advice to head to Yreaka Calif. , we then checked the internet for hotels and got a list , then as we were on a Goat trail (Beautiful scenery and wildlife - watch out for Bamby)with little to no cellular reception i called around when possible and found this place. the clerk on the phone was polite but a little hard to understand(accent),she reassured me it was a clean place and had a pool and free continental breakfast . we booked a two queen room as there was my wife an me and two kids). we arrived around 6:30pm and the place looked fairly clean on the outside, went into the office and instantly a smell of curry hit me (i love east Indian cuisine)The clerks 2 adult males assisted me and the checked me in , opened the pool gate for my kids to go swimming , i couldn't get into our room #41 with the card key so i returned to the office and the clerk/owner brought a new card key that worked , we got in and that's when it all went to the shitter. The room smelled real bad then we realized it was a smoking room , the place was econo, we couldn't connect to the WiFi unless i stood outside in the parking lot. That night we discovered the room comes with pets-two cockroaches scurrying away in the bathroom and some bright orange multi legged centipede, and the flea bites . the wife exited the place and slept in the van . i stayed with the kids till 7am , we went to get the continental breakfast- a sign was on the juice machine saying broken juice in refrigerator , the juice was a jug of some kind of watered down OJ , the bread was hard and stale , there was two yes two wrapped pastries . and a coffee dispenser that's it. i waited to talk to the clerk/owner to complain but no one would come out. Lesson learned "DON'T STAY HERE UNLESS YOU ARE AND EXTERMINATOR and have your...
Read moreI would not recommend this hotel. While the rates may be cheap, it is definitely worth the extra cash to find a better place that can treat their customers like actual human beings. We had a group of 36, consisting of 7 families. We made reservations and paid for 9 rooms under the Choice Hotels application. On the day of the reservation, we received a text around 4 PM stating that our reservations would be canceled if we did not reply by 6 PM. We found this odd as this has never happened to us at other hotels.
After replying in time, we arrived later that evening to find that our rooms have already been booked off. The man in charge even threw a fit saying he would not do business with us due to a booking error and proceeded to ask where we were from in a demeaning manner. Initially, they refused to refund us at all, but after a phone call with Choice Hotels to clear things up, we were refunded.
By the time the refund was taken care of, it was past midnight and our group had nowhere to go. We were denied access to the parking lot and asked to leave at 1 in the morning with children as young as 4 years old to another place where we could park and wait for Choice Hotels to find us a new accommodation.
It is appalling to witness the staff here lack basic manners used to communicate with an individual, let alone a customer. They were unable to manage the issue in a respectful and mature manner and instead resorted to shouting and pointing. This is not to say that all Econo Lodges are poor, we have been to several and all were very accommodating. This Econo Lodge in particular, however, lacks the fundamentals of customer service which is the basis of the...
Read moreLocals stay here and are super loud and obnoxious all night, saw at least 2 drug deals happen in the parking lot. Breakfast was OK. Room was decorated decently. Wasn't the cleanest room, found broken glass in the bathroom. Walls are paper thin, definitely not the most secure hotel. Check-in was fast. Wifi was spotty. Parking sucked. Bed was extra firm. Hot water lasted forever and the water pressure was nice.
BUT The housekeeper, is the main reason that next time, ill stay at ANYWHERE ELSE.
The room cost more than a comparable room elsewhere would've, but regardless- none of that was that bad, I still wouldve stayed here again. (Technically I was a returning guest, because I was only supposed to stay 1 night, but I extended and stayed 2!)
BUT THAT WILL BE MY LAST VISIT all thanks to my last 30 minutes in the hotel, when I had the unfortunate luck of having to deal with a housekeeper, that should've been fired. Customer service and hospitality are simply not in her vocabulary. She should never be allowed to interact with guests if she can't be respectful.
if youve ever worked in the hospitality industry, then you know it takes just 2 seconds to lose a lifelong guest- and that is exactly what she did. This woman not only ruined my stay, she put me in a horrible mood for the rest of the day. And I doubt she was reprimanded at all.
Save yourself the trip. There are nicer hotels up the road for the same price with...
