My experience with Apple Annie's was brief and unpleasant. My boyfriend and I stopped there after picking apples to get something to eat. First, we checked in the bakery section with the pies. It was PACKED. There was just enough room for us to squeeze into the line, so my boyfriend opened the door, slowly, because there was a woman standing in the way, and almost immediately the woman working behind the counter yelled for us to close the door. There were no plant based options, the line was not moving at all, and getting yelled at instead of greeted or even ignored made things awkward, so we moved on to the restaurant. There was no line outside the door. There is writing on the floor that says to wait there to be seated. Right by the door, there are menus, I picked one up to see if there were plant based options, so that if there wasn't, we wouldn't need to waste time waiting in line and we didn't need to waste anyone else's time, either. Before I could read a word on the menu, I was snapped at by either the host or a server, I presume. She said something along the lines of, "It says wait here outside the door. That's where you're going to wait until someone says otherwise." I quickly asked if there were plant based options, she told me no, and we left.
A little kindness goes a long way, and the way we were treated (plus the lack of plant based options) did not make me want to support that business the way I had wanted to walking up the hill to the establishment.
I presume the fact that I have purple hair put a bad taste in some people's mouths, as I got a very conservative and perhaps right leaning environmental feel, and a lot of people judge books by their covers.
My boyfriend and I were polite, quiet, and hopeful to make purchases. I felt disheartened after leaving because of how rudely we were treated.
From a caring place, because I have fond childhood memories of Oak Glen, I suggest staff come to an agreement to be kind to potential customers, or at the very lease not to be rude to them, and to add even 1 plant based option to your menus. If it's good, I promise a lot of people...
Read moreSo, we went for a ride and stopped here for a small lunch. We decided to sit outside so we could enjoy the weather. We had to go inside and find a waitress, she gave us menus and told us to have a seat, she came out a bit later to take our order. She was very hurried and frazzled. She took our order and handed us the device she had used to place the order saying, "you pay on here, good luck", and walked away. They only take credit cards and we had cash so we were told we had to get as close as we could to the total because they didn't have change. We later found out all the stores up there do that (what a cash making business, extra tips maybe?) We ordered zucchini and chili with cornbread to share. I ordered iced tea and my fiance ordered a Sprite. A few minutes later she arrived with the tea and a water and said she couldn't remember what he has said with a small laugh. She then went back and got him his Sprite. I had asked for an extra bowl, she did remember that part, but that's where the good ended. My silverware had no spoon but luckily she had brought an extra with the chili. Food was decent nothing really to get excited about, but I have definitely had better. The food was very expensive, the zucchini was $12, and the cornbread and chili that really had no flavor and corn bread that was falling apart cost us $16.95 or something like that. She never came back to fill our drinks until we were getting ready to leave when she brought my fiance an extra Sprite but no tea for me . It was just not the best experience and not at all what I was expecting. We have driven by here on a Sunday and seen the two to three hour wait standing outside the door and we were expecting much better food. Maybe their breakfast is better. In conclusion I'm giving them a 3 based on our service, price, and taste of food. And it would have been a 2, but our food came very quickly so that's why I bumped it to a 3. I am very disappointed that my first meal at the famous Apple Annie's was so bad. Maybe they were just having a bad day,...
Read moreMy +1 and I make a point to stop by this place whenever we can make it during apple season.
To be honest, we remember the place before the overhaul, and initially didn’t care for the overhaul of the whole Oak Tree Village, but we’ve since come to appreciate it.
It’s important to know that the place is a combination of bakery and restaurant, with separate entrances for each. The lines to get into each one can be confusing because the restaurant line usually ends around or overlaps into the bakery line.
As for the line, it usually moves relatively quickly. Usually. We had a couple of groups with 10-13 people in them ahead of us, which gummed things up. Especially for a Saturday evening. Not their fault, though. The staff was able to accommodate and keep things moving.
We got seated outside (which we preferred) and already knew what we wanted. My +1 got the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw, which was full of flavor. I ordered the mountain burger, and was able to order it with an extra patty (for an extra 5.99) and it was pricey, but was pretty hearty and it hit the spot. We also ordered a grilled cheese sandwich for my little and it came with seasoned fries (like the rest of the food) so we had plenty to eat. They also have an assortment of drinks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic, including apple wines and hard ciders, to wash your meal down with.
Of course we couldn’t forget dessert. We all shared a big slice of fresh apple pie, and it was pretty amazing. They topped it generously with vanilla ice cream, and it was enough for the 3 of us.
Service was fine, and the food really hit the spot after a day of hiking and apple picking. Yeah it’s a bit pricey, but it’s to be expected in Oak Glen. The place lost a little of its country rustic charm (think Cracker Barrel) since the renovations that turned it more cookie-cutter Instagram industrial, but the food improved and so did the service.
We’ll be back next season,...
