Went in for lunch today with my wife. Haven't been here for about 15 years. I always wondered what this place was like 30 years ago. Maybe it may have had candy or pies behind the displays? They are all filled with knick nacks now. Maybe it's not our thing but the place looks like Grandma's house/antique store overflowing with plastic flowers everywhere. I'm sure some of the older crowd would like it but ambiance wise it's not for us. Still we tried to keep a positive vibe and soak in the visuals because we respect that it's a small business and a historical place. When we sat down the table smelled like it was wiped down with a sour rag. The staff were very friendly even though we could tell they were short staffed. They were not busy at the time, only 3 other guests there. They took our order right away and the wait wasn't that bad at all. Only took about 15 minutes. I got the California dip sandwich and my wife got the Texmex sandwich. My sandwich was great, toasty roast beef with green chili and oju sauce. My wifes however was disgusting. It was an open face sandwich, turkey drowned in this sort of I believe southwest sauce (way too much sauce) with toasted cheese on top. Came with potato salad which wasn't that great. It looked good to me because I like cheese then I tried it. I can stomach almost anything but even I couldn't eat it. It was the sauce that did it. Wife asked to take it off the bill as we only took 3 bites. After a little discussion between the manager and the wife on what Texmex is, the manager was still very polite and took it off the bill for us. She also offered to make her something else but my wife was too grossed out by then.
Gave 3 stars because my food was good, wife's was not, but the staff was very friendly and accommodating. Also don't care for the decorations but that's just me. I'm sure it's great for the older crowd getting together for tea after church or family get togethers just...
Read more5 star - For dinner we shared the Southwestern sandwich, it was very good. It's basically a burger on grilled parmesan sourdough. Daughter had a loaded baked potato that she loved. Then we bought dessert to go, we got the German chocolate cake (good), lemon cake (very good) and two scoops of ice cream (one salted caramel and one chocolate they are very good). Everything we ate had a homemade feel, and the ingredients seemed very fresh. Everything was reasonably priced, the total bill was approximately $45, we will be going back soon, I can't wait to try out the breakfast menu, and I'm looking forward to a "real" dinner menu that the owner said was coming soon.
Lowered to 3 stars - Back for breakfast, well breakfast was pretty good (small menu), we both had bacon and eggs. Good portion sizes, 3 scrambled eggs, 3 large pieces of bacon, half a plate of potatoes, and toast. I was confused by the slow service, we were the only customers in the restaurant and it took a while to be seated, then a little longer to get our drinks (from my daughter-she didn't like that the water seemed to be infused with lemon, and the lemon was in the glass below the ice). Well this continued on it was longer to get our order taken, and then a very long time for the food to be brought to the table (minus my toast), the server said she would bring it right out. At this time we weren't the only customers and two more tables had arrived, the server took their orders and still didn't bring the toast, we finished our breakfast, and we're now waiting for the check, and she showed up with the toast, it took about 10 more minutes to get the check. I was surprised by the difference in service from our first time, the food was still very good, we will give them another visit to see if this was just a fluke, or if bad service...
Read moreWe live in the area. Wanted breakfast so decided to try this place out as we drive by it often. Cute little spot. Definitely takes you back in time with the tea time theme and crystal ware. As another review mention they said they didn't have any seating but we could sit outside. We opted to sit outside. Took a few minutes for them to come out n take our order. We ordered coffee and orange juice for my self and my son. Coffee was good my wife enjoyed. Orange juice was definitely not orange juice tasted more like Tampico. Sometimes later she come south let's us know a table is available as there wa a canceled reservation. We took the indoor seating. Took about 45mij-1hr to get our meals. Mind you the menu for breakfast is not extensive by any means. My wife n mother inlaw ordered I believe the california of letters which they enjoyed. I had the chicken chilli omlette which I wasn't impressed with their house potatoes this day were hard and under cooked even though they looked very promising on the plate. I also ordered a side of ham. Which seemed to be lunch meat hame chopped up and was very thin. Needles to say for the steep price and service. I do not see my self coming back. Though a nice little spot for people who enjoy tea and the nostalgia and don't mind waiting for...
