This place has been recommended to me a few times so finally tried it and it was not what I expected. I ordered carne asada w/ beans n rice and the portion was enough for multiple people so if I were to go back I'd get the "bowl" like some of my table did. It was basically same thing just smaller portions, I didn't see it on the menu. The person at the register was honest when I originally ordered the chicken and asked if it was dry and he said it requires a lot of sauce so I switched to the beef and I am not exaggerating when I say the carne asada was the closet thing to jerky other than jerky I have ever eaten. It was cut different than what I am used to seeing but the main problem that I think made it so dry was it looked like it started out as a tough roast and then they over cooked it after it was cut up and it didn't have a chance from the beginning. There was no seasoning at all , they rely heavy on their sauces for sure and give out many containers of salsa's, sauces and other moisture adding condiments but I prefer my food to moist enough to eat sauce or no sauce. The flan was amazing and I for sure will grab a flan to go when I'm in the neighborhood again because it was exactly as you would expect with perfect caramelized custard that had the exact amount of jiggle. The flan should be retailed everywhere,it's that good. They offer chocolate flan also and I'm looking forward to trying that. The decor is very pleasing and color choices were bold and definitely whoever came up with color scheme made fantastic choices. My friends took photos to recreate the decor for themselves. My friends who ordered Pina coladas were happy with the drink, I tried it and wow they don't skimp on the alcohol but it took twenty minutes to get the drinks and they had to ask repeatedly. Then the server informed us they don't actually have a bar so the drinks were made by the registers on the front counter by one of the servers so this is what created the long long wait for drinks. No one complained about the drinks once they arrived because of the value per amount of alcohol except for the wait. It was a mixed bag, some hits, some misses for sure. One person ordered enchiladas and loved everything about them so I'm going to give it another try and get the enchiladas next time and of course the flan and update review after that. The good points were fantastic but the bad points were terrible so I'm thinking the meat cooker had a bad night or something went wrong and it's worth...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have changed my rating for this restaurant sadly from 5 starts to 1. The reason is I have gone here since I can remember from the early 70's. Since they have redone it a second time it has lost its touch in taste and quality. I found a broken hair tie in my bean and cheese burrito I saved it and I called the restaurant they were only going to refund my purchase nothing for the mental anguish I suffered from this wondering if I would get the covid virus or aids or hepatitis or a number of possible horrible things I never went to get my refund. I use to go here when I couldn't eat anything I knew I could eat a bean and cheese burrito. Not anymore sadly the other day my friend took me there and bought me 2 bean and cheese burritos and a machca I thought I would try it again WRONG! OMG I couldn't believe that when I took a bite of the burrito the beams had been burned! Both of my burritos and my friends nasty horrible taste needless to say I didn't even try my machaca I still have the burrito with the hair tie in my freezer I don't think they will be able to remain open and chili pepper is still very good great service and great tasting food the way it should be and has been for decades. Thank you CHILI PEPPER goodbye Mr.G's 04/14/2025 They still have not reached out to me about this incidence. Very disappointed. Not even a email or reply...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was on the way to a frisbee tournament in Flagstaff with some buds. The sun was getting low and the driver asked "is anyone hungry?" It was clear, he was hungry. We needed something fast but thought we could do better than fast food. Boy could we. We found some reviews for "the best bean and cheese burritos I have ever had" and we had to check it out. We decided to eat in and see what it was all about. We immediately noticed the AC, a boon in the 105+ degree heat. Mr G's is counter serve with open seating. When we approached the counter we were too excited and ended up asking a lot of questions. They were gracious enough to hold up a wrapped bean and cheese burrito to show us the size. We eventually all ordered, everything including beans and cheese. Servers brought our food before we had all finished our restroom breaks. Perfect for folks trying to get somewhere fast. We put those burritos down in under 5m each. I got a nice sized flan, which didn't skimp on the vanilla. One of my buddoes got an extra large bag of chips.
Highly recommend Me G's for anyone passing through. DO NOT MISS THE BEAN AND...
