I was super excited to try out this new place!
Walking in, the place looks super fancy with the beautiful building and high vaulted ceilings, lots of plants. A little confused at the paper table cloths.. easier for when you have no staff I guess but no longer gave off higher class energy for our date. I understand this is an ode to Garfield’s, not a serious complaint
We got the dill cheese curds for an appetizer.. the ranch was pretty good. I don’t like ranch typically but this is probably the best part of the meal..
We were served bread and oil, the bread wasn’t very tasty but I was like oh, free bread no big deal.
We got the flight of cocktails after being unable to choose from the ones available. None really stood out as very appetizing or original.. neither me or my partner finished any of them. I feel like for a place that charges around $20 or more per entree, they would have better alcohol in their signature cocktails than just Southern Comfort. In my opinion, if you’re serving mid food then you should at least have good offerings to get people drunk
Okay so onto the food.. my partner got the Parmesan crusted chicken, fries and Mac and cheese. I got the mushroom penne pasta with fries as well
My fries didn’t come out with the food and I had to ask the server for them. Then we realized my partners fries were completely cold so we had to ask for hot ones too. They were soggy and probably frozen with a texture that reminds me of the local Flying J’s truck stop
The Mac and cheese.. I’ve never met a Mac and cheese I don’t like. Had a texture that seemed frozen like a kids cuisine meal. Literally brought nostalgia to me but not in a good way. No seasonings or anything on it.. neither of us ate it. Also wasn’t hot like it was premade
My partner then had to scrape off the parm crust from the chicken.. I’ve never seen this man turn down any food. I felt horrible because we didn’t have time to get anything else before our movie. The pasta wasn’t very good either, was like dominos pasta (which btw is like $6-$7)
We had to ask our server for refills.. she seemed young like maybe it was her first job so whatever.
Overall, shitty food.. at least we had a few good laughs on our date. Can’t remember the last time I went somewhere and literally ALL the food and the service was bad
I feel like if you serve every type of meat, (duck, seafood, chicken/steak) and serve multiple cultures worth of food (Greek bowls, American sides, tacos, dumplings and Italian pasta) at this price point, you should have at least one speciality. At this price you should at least offer good service where I don’t have to look around for 15 minutes for a waitress to get more water
Kinda confused on the energy this place is going for overall and am disappointed it...
Read moreWe decided to check this place out. We went Feb 28th a Friday. Was not super busy, no wait to be seated. They had staffing issues in the kitchen...
We arrived around 6:20pm seated immediately.
The server comes to the table around 15-20 mins and and takes our orders.
We were offered some bread, and it came out eventually. I actually figured we wouldn't get bread before the food arrived. It took a long time. The bread is pretty good.
1 hour into this, drinks long empty. We start paying attention.
There are tons of tables that were seated before us without any food. I'm noticing that no food has really been coming from the kitchen.
When food started coming out, the table behind had been waiting, like 1.5 hours for some burgers. Bugers and fries. I saw some tables starting to ask servers about the waits.
We were about to pay for our sodas and leave, and our waitress said it should be out shortly.
Our food finally came out. I ordered the surf and turf.. steak and scallops, Mac n cheese, and sweet potatoes. Not surprising at all, the waitress was like the sweet potatoes are not done they will be out shortly.
My filet was good, but not oh wow. The scallops were cold. The surf and turf here is $56 bucks. It is not worthy of the $56 dollar mark. I would not recommend this nor order it again. Scallops were removed from the bill. Which was 6 dollars. Leaving the filet and 2 sides at $50. The filet and 2 sides is also not anywhere close to a $50 price tag.
My wife ordered the parmesan crusted chicken. This might be this places saving grace. She ordered it with red smashed potato and Mac and cheese. This dish was amazing, and the price was definitely priced right at $19. I would have felt comfortable paying around $24 or $25 $ for that dish.
The waiting was absurdly long for everything, except being seated. They need to work on pricing and staffing they stated 5 people didn't come to work in the kitchen. The decor is very nice and the atmosphere was very nice.
We plan to give it another shot as my wife's dish was very, very good.
We finally got our bill at 7:55pm and received our receipt at 8pm.
When I go to dinner, I'm not trying to hang out for almost 2 hours. Unless it's a dinner show.
I'm going to give it one more try. If the waiting is anything like this visit, it will be...
Read moreOur first time at The 146. What we ate.
Appetizer: Duck wontons, delightful, complex filling, wonderful texture, good sauce. Tip: when serving a sharable, provide a small plate for each person. Appetizer arrived before the bread so using the bread plate wasn't an option.
Bread: Pumpernickel, warm, soft with a herb olive oil for dipping, perfect!
Entrée 1: Firecracker salmon, paired with Mac&cheese and Duchess sweet potatoes. Salmon was better than expected, not much fire, just a hint. The chef nailed the cook, bravo! Mac&cheese, very good, creamy, balanced, a pleasure to eat. The sweet potatoes were a miss for us; very sweet, and we felt the presentation called for absolutely smooth potatoes, they were not, small chunks were not the expected mouth feel.
Entrée 2: Chef's surf & turf, paired with mac&cheese and asparagus. The filet was cooked to the exact temperature ordered, seasoning was very light, a touch more perhaps would have been an improvement. Take note of the following. The scallops were clearly on the last day they could be served. I smelled them before arriving at the table. I refused to try them. My wife, a former sous chef, said they were safe to eat, but shouldn't have been plated. She has a stronger constitution than myself and tried the scallops. The cook was perfect, the texture had degrading from what it should have been; if fresh, she said they would have been very good. The mac & cheese has been covered. The asparagus, we have the second issue with this meal. It is not with the cook or seasoning, both were excellent; it was that the asparagus came out six minutes after the entrée. This brings light to something we noticed the entire meal, everything was arriving a little slower than it should. Drinks were noticable slow, straight pours of wine/beer, nothing fancy.
Summary: Good food, some interesting new options for the area. Chefs that can nail a cook temperature. Some unfortunate freshness and timing issues. Total bill with four adult beverages...
