Terrible restaurant. (Please read on to see my response to the owner)

Don’t listen to any of the positive reviews.

Ordered the seafood platter, and all the food was made from frozen, the lobster was off and sour, and the oysters were disgusting and slimy.

The final insult was when they decided to give us a 10% discount when we didn’t eat any of our meal.

I politely told them to take the discount off and I’ll pay the whole bill, the 10% off was an absolute insult and disgrace

Don’t risk your health or your money at this terrible restaurant

EDIT: Response to Matt and the team.

Hi Matt, it seems like you take as much pride with your food, as you do take responding to your customers, sub-par.

It’s no secret that your restaurant enjoys “like-farming” on google to get your ratings high, and providing a less than adequate meal.

Rest assured I have lodged a further complaint through google about this malpractice of soliciting reviews as per googles terms and conditions.

In addition to your concern about my dispute with my cab driver, who, didn’t understand a word of English or how a credit card payment works, - I don’t see how that’s related to you serving spoilt meals - you are a true master of deflection

Whilst I decided to leave quite a few details out of my review, now that we are getting into the details, let me illuminate the rest of your restaurants failures:

They took almost an hour from Order and o receive our meal.

They explained to us how all of your seafood was frozen, hence why they couldn’t prepare the oysters fresh (raw)

When asked about the lobster and the fish, we were told they were frozen and not made from fresh. I think a name change to “FrozenFish” might be a more honest representation? What do you think Mat?

The “one dish” I ordered, was a platter of a variety of seafood, to taste a collection of your seafood, that should be representative of your menu, and your restaurants ability to serve good and fresh seafood - the result was anything but. (Fatfish?!?! I got Catfished instead!!)

Why would we order any additional dishes from the restaurant as a result?

Your maths skills seem to be as bad as your ability to serve quality food as well - eaten 60 percent? Of what? A platter of rotten food?

You must be delusional.

I was glad to have visited a pharmacy and gotten preventative medication to ensure the rest of my stay in Da Nang was served well.

I am very grateful that your restaurant is not representative of the great city of Da Nang, and that it is a vibrant and beautiful city, with amazing food.

Be better Matt and Team, a message from every one...

Fairly uninspiring experience. Staff are attentive and caring which is a bonus.

Pro tip: although they serve bottled water, they also will serve you filtered water if you insist.

In terms of ambience, design is ok but they fall flat with the monotonous background muzac. Makes you feel like you’re in a mall more than in a restaurant. They missed the mark.

Nice touch, they serve you a complimentary flatbread at the start although neither the flatbread or the sauce had a discernible flavour.

Ordered cerviche, carpaccio, taco trio and salmon flatbread.

Cerviche was a total assault on the senses with no balance. It’s the perfect way to ruin your palate before eating anything else. There might be fish on the plate but you won’t be able to tell that it’s fish. Take a pass.

Taco trio seems just for show, meat was dry, large quantities though, overwhelming the somewhat dry tortilla. Similarly, I would pass.

Salmon flatbread missed the memo - the salmon was cooked to tastelessness. Could have been tofu and had the same complexion and flavour. Perhaps the person executing has never actually tried this dish before. You don’t cook the salmon on the flatbread.

Finally the carpaccio was nice to look at. They had an attempt at a sweet tomato salsa to accompany which didn’t match. Cheese was the lowest cost hard cows cheese they could find, robbing the plate of appropriate richness. Would pass.

The best part of the dinner was the Savall Chocolates featuring local flavours. Pricy though, 185k.

Overall dinner came out to 1 million for one person.

Was I full? Yes. Was I satiated? Not really. I went and ate Vietnamese noodle soup after.

Would I come back? I’m really not sure. I like the look of the place and maybe the bar top would be good for a date and some nibbles, but for a dinner where I’m looking for sustenance, nutrition and deliciousness, probably not.

In the end I fault the restaurant -2 points for being overpriced for its food category given the ingredients and execution. Design and ambiance does not make up for shortcomings in what the...

I really wanted to give a perfect rating to this cute little restaurant on account of the staff’s friendly and excellent service, and the relaxing atmosphere. However, I had a few issues with the food that I cannot disregard in this review.

My dining partner and I shared the Parma ham pizza and the Mahi mahi filet. I was very excited to try the mahi mahi as there were so many good reviews about it, but unfortunately mine arrived with very wet, soft and oily fish skin. It was not seared properly at all, which resulted in a soggy dish. To the staff’s credit, they offered to change the dish after I flagged this to them, and I opted for the mussels with tomato sauce. Unfortunately, as can be seen from the photo, the sauce for the mussels was very disappointing- it was like a puddle of chili oil with some cherry tomatoes floating in it. There was no way that I was going to dip any of my bread in that puddle of chili oil.

That said, I was prepared to pay for at least the mussels since I did manage to finish them. I was however not prepared to pay for the fish dish, which I barely ate and sent back. However, to my surprise, I was expected to pay for the fish dish, when the initial bill came. It was only when I expressed some unhappiness that the bill was changed to reflect that the fish dish was not charged, whereas the mussels were (which was fair in my opinion).

To be fair to the staff though, service was excellent throughout, except for that little blip.

This review is not meant to disparage Fatfish in any way- i fully respect its legacy in Da nang, but I do hope that some improvements can be made to the...

Staff speaks great English, everyone was welcoming and attentive. I’m a solo diner and prefer to sit at the bar; their bar is full service. I appreciated the beer selection and the bartender correctly identified the better beer out of the 2 I was choosing between. The food is thoughtfully executed, with elements that were new to me and that I liked. Eg. The brûlée citrus with the calamari, the black sesame in the batter, the roasted chile skins that were julienned. They make a lot of items in house, which is why I picked this place to try out. The spinach and ricotta pasta was delicious; it had bite, but not chew, and the filling was well seasoned. The toasted pine nuts on top were a necessary and appreciated texture. I had to get extremely picky to find any faults, but consider these negligible: basil chiffonade lacked uniformity and the basil was a bit bruised, perhaps because the knife needed to be a bit more sharp? Pasta was a touch thick, but had excellent crimping technique, which is a skill I personally struggle with. The sauce could’ve been adhered or merried better with the pasta, maybe with a little bit of that pasta cooking water. The dish lacked acid. Again, super minor things, but I would have welcomed a lemon wedge or a touch of vinegar to lift that cream sauce a bit. After a few bites, it got a little heavy on the palate and I needed some relief. Overall fantastic meal-I would eat here again and I have in mind a couple more dishes I’d like to try. Highly recommend.
