Tucked away in a tiny corner of paradise across from beautiful West Lake in Hanoi, Vietnam, lies a delightful and unexpected culinary gem.
Who would think that a chef, known for his work at Michelin-starred restaurants of major hotel chains, would open such a charming and friendly restaurant right in the heart of the country? And at such affordable, non-Michelin prices!
From the moment you step inside the brick-clad first floor, you feel welcomed and at ease. This is not one of the Michelin-starred restaurants where the chef has cooked - here he wants everyone to be able to enjoy his food in a relaxed, unpretentious setting. Make your way upstairs to the classy yet casual dining area and prepare your tastebuds for an incredible meal at a fraction of the price of his more upscale kitchens.
The food here is simply delicious. The chef has crafted a menu full of flavors that sing in your mouth. I was craving a good steak during my three month travels in Asia, so I ordered the fillet steak. It was cooked to absolute perfection and easily one of the best steaks I've enjoyed anywhere in the world. The steak came with a mouthwatering sauce, but the meat was so tender and flavorful on its own that it almost seemed a shame to use it. The owner recommended dipping the potato wedges into the sauce instead - an ingenious idea that allowed the stellar steak to stand on its own.
In addition to the flawless fillet, sides like the baked garlic and the potato wedges were just as much of a delight. And the wine pairings only elevated each bite. Every component came together to create a dining experience I'll remember forever.
From start to finish, this charming eatery exceeded my expectations. The friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and incredible execution left me in awe that such a fantastic restaurant with Michelin-caliber food could be found in this unexpected Vietnamese location. I cannot recommend this delightful paradise highly enough for any discerning diner visiting the area. It's an...
Read moreCockroach issue... I've been to this restaurant a few times before but this last visit was very disappointing. Our food was basically tasty but our dinner was spoilt by the presence of several cockroaches in the restaurant. This can of course happen from time to time in Asia but the manager's reaction was quite shocking. managed restaurant. Neither the waitress nor the manager showed any real interest. On the contrary, they claimed it was normal for the warm season, which was a bad joke. After the manager lady even said she thought there was only one cockroach...we could count at least 3. Then she brought the bill with 50% discount on it what we obviously rejected and paid the whole amount. The restaurant needs to do something about pest control or at least treat their customers with some respect. We will definitely not be...
Read morewe had a B-day party with dinner in a room of second floor. Seven of us were treated to an array of perfectly flavored and balanced dishes.
They included salad, coconut dish, beef steak cooked exactly as ordered and joy of joys, a fabulous French plate.
Although Fabrik has an excellent range of craft beers, which we enjoyed another day, it was great to have the choice of good wines, priced very well for Hanoi, to enjoy with our meal.
Well-made cocktails are also on offer.
Chef Olivier was on hand to talk us through the menu and check that we were enjoying our meal and the service from the local staff was first class.
I highly recommend Fabrik, the food and drinks are excellent and it’s location a little oasis of tranquility, while still being very accessible.
