Literally THE place to treat yourself the best cup of hot latte that you can possibly obtain, if you’re waddling around Hanoi under this weather. They get the best beans for any of your specialty coffee wildest demands. But that’s not all.
One day when you’re least expected, she (the owner - last pic) delivers the most soothing cup of matcha latte out of her smile. Once “Em uống thử đi” is spoken, that’s it, the cup immediately sent me places. And from that moment Untitled was also a matcha bar that takes me straight back to Arashiyama - Kyoto.
Not all of my stars were about drinks, Untitled is much more. This - is quite the only place where I find myself socialize more than usual (for a 75% introvert like myself). Maybe it was the place, the vibe of it. The room runs only with small lights and a bit of natural light from the balcony door, which speaks cozy, warmth and a sense of being home, and of course, dreamy, very dreamy. Sometimes when the day is getting late, it feels like a neon bar from some of your cyberpunk movies you can think of.
And no it does not simply LOOK cozy and welcoming, the owners make sure about that. Chị Ti and bạn Duy (they keep the place up and running) are some of the most friendly people I met, ever. You can just come, drop your load down to any seat, start yappin, and they’ll join you with whatever it is that you’re on about. And under the neon vibe, it feels like you’re playing VA11-HALL-A in real life (a cyberpunk themed videogame where you are a neon bartender who just yap to your customers) Sometimes I find myself blasting the game soundtracks while I was here, the vibe is unmatched.
I’ve been dropping by for years, and I will keep doing so, by now you should know why. This is quite literally one of the hidden gems of Hanoi. I’ve been telling my gang that Untitled is now in some of the essential checklist of Hanoi’s tourism points of interest, gang laughed. But honestly Untitled Espesso Bar is no less than that. It’s untitled until you come and give it a...
Read moreA cafe that is someone’s actual living room is a quintessential Hanoi experience. And believe me, this coffee shop, which is nestled in a sunlit living room with a small balcony looking out into a quaint and quiet residential neighborhood in Ba Dinh, should be at the top of your list of must-visit coffee places in Ha Noi. It is focused on specialty coffee, so the only things on the menu are light-roasted arabica coffee-based drink, and ceremonial-grade matcha. All hand drip coffee is made with Kono drippers, and espresso and espresso-based drinks are cranked out of a La Marzocco GS3. The quality of the coffee is very consistent, often balanced and clean. These people are very serious about their coffee. I would say that this is probably in my top 2 places in Ha Noi for drip coffee, and top 2 or 3 for espresso. Here you can also buy coffee beans very capably roasted by Merly – one of my favorite micro-roasters in Viet Nam. Coffee aside, the three-person team (plus two small dogs!) manning this little café is also extremely friendly and will make you feel as if you are visiting a friend’s home. The gregarious proprietress is also a well of knowledge on Ha Noi’s food scene. If you are a tourist, make sure to exploit her for restaurant...
Read moreI hope there are no coffee shop owners or workers who have never heard of Merly’s roastery and chị Ti’s professional commitment to the making of coffee culture in Hanoi. This espresso bar is the ideal place if you can come with nothing and everything in mind because the selections are up to whether you want to drink coffee or matcha only. I personally enjoy the fact that I can just tell Ti I want a hot or iced drink on that day and trust that the most flavored pour-over is served with her favorite bean selection of the day. Untitled is located at a tranquil corner alley on the busy street of Ngọc Khánh where you can find yourself a comfort drink while hanging with her two lovely dogs Táo and Tô. I believe that a good cup of coffee is nurtured by the love of the coffee-maker and Untitled is the place where all tastebuds are celebrated and served with care.
If Ti is a passionate conversationalist for the visitors to feel at home, Duy is dedicated to his beans & matcha knowledge and is a great place of trust if you have high standards for the crafts behind the flavors of the beans. I have heard other customers saying that Untitled is like a heritage space to visit in Hanoi and would...
