Almost every room has mould all over the walls. People were getting ill from staying in the rooms and I saw several people change rooms or check out because of it. The mould makes the rooms smell bad too. Clearly no ventilation system in place, rooms are filled with condensation and your bedding is constantly damp. When I brought up the mould and changed rooms myself, the staff were rude and gaslit me. They said mould is inevitable on an island in Vietnam and there was nothing they could do. They made me check out and then wait to check into another room because the hostel was apparently ‘full’ (it wasn’t). The new room also had mould but less. They also told me ‘we have people stay here every day and they just put up with it and don’t ask to change rooms’…. I told them they shouldn’t be checking in anyone new to my original room and they just looked at me like, well we will. I got no compensation or refund for staying in a disgusting, mouldy room.
Food wise, I tried several things from the food menu and majority of them were bad. The pasta was really sweet. Only the Vietnamese dishes were ok.
Location wise, you are a bit too far out of the centre to walk. Taxis into the centre are a rip off and there is no grab. So unless you hire a bike every single day, you are kind of trapped in the hostel with no restaurants or things around you. In general, the hostel just doesn’t feel particularly clean. No hand wash in most of the bathrooms and often they’d run out of toilet paper.
Good things: the free breakfast is decent free drinks / good atmosphere on an evening some rooms have balconies (but this doesn’t stop the mould) good for organising tours and things lots of bikes to hire and these are cheap
Overall, I would not recommend this hostel at all. Stay at secret garden in the centre which I’ve heard is excellent. The only reason I stayed at buffalo is because SG was closed for tet.
UPDATE - I have since got a chest infection and fever from staying in this hostel…...

Read moreVisted this place a couple of weeks ago. This restaurant is a fantastic place to visit for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. One of the best parts is that they offer vegan options, which is a big plus for those looking for plant-based meals. We visited the restaurant in the afternoon, so unfortunately didn’t get a chance to order from the breakfast menu. However, the lunch menu had plenty of delicious choices, especially for seafood lovers.
For our lunch, we decided to try some of their seafood dishes. My wife ordered the grilled oysters with garlic butter, grilled fish, and a fruit bowl. Everything we tried was excellent. The grilled oysters, in particular, stood out as a highlight of the meal. They were cooked to perfection, and the garlic butter added an amazing flavor that made them truly unforgettable. It was my first time experience with my wife, and she loved the taste. The grilled fish was also fresh and well-seasoned, and the fruit bowl was a refreshing end to the meal.
Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at this restaurant. The food was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I highly recommend trying the grilled oysters if you visit. They are definitely a must-try item on the menu. We look forward to coming back and trying the breakfast...
