Food ☆☆☆ Mixed ratings on the food. The fried spring rolls are some of the best we had anywhere in the past 3 weeks in Viet Nam.
The fried noodles 1 with pork and one with shrimp were very greasy with the oily residue collecting at the bottom of the plate and was inedible. (We ate about half of each portion)
The Pho Chicken had good broth but no herbs. We asked the waiter who was watching the Slovenia v Serbia football game for herbs and he told us they don't have any. 20mins later as we were leaving the Vietnamese lady on the table beside us received a big blue basket of herbs with her Pho.
All food were very generous (large) portions
Service ☆ Started well with smiles but this is where the service stopped and the football game started. The restaurant was only 1/4 occupied and the food arrived quickly.
Atmosphere ☆☆☆☆ Comfortable and clean
Conclusion: go when there's not a football game on and the staff might not be distracted. Insist on herbs with your Pho as they do have them but the staff can't be bothered to get them for tourists if there is a game on.

Read moreYou have to give this spot a try!! What a hidden gem… we went here two nights in a row during our 3 night 4 day stay in Cat Ba. The food is delicious and very reasonably priced. It’s probably not as packed because it’s not on a very busy street and unassuming.
The first night I had the pho ga (chicken soup noodles) and my husband got the noodles with pork, we shared the pork nem and all we soo good.
Second night we decided to have a feast since it was our last night. We shared grilled oysters, clams with lemongrass, papaya salad, fried rice and the water spinach. Everything was amazingly fresh and tasty, great portion sizes too!
Lastly I think the owner is typically a one man show, he takes your order and makes the food but it never takes long - another reason to support his...
Read moreThis place is just a few minutes away from the main waterfront street in Cat Ba and much more authentic than any of the other restaurants we saw there. We had a delicious vegetarian meal. As other reviews say, the fried spring rolls are incredible! The banana blossom salad and vegetarian noodles were also very tasty. It was very quiet when we got there but started filling up quickly shortly after. The owner was cooking and serving the tables, so there was a bit of a wait, but he was doing a great job and being very nice to everyone. We had a really...
