My partner and I were so enamored with Son that we couldn't resist returning for brunch the very next day!

We cannot stress enough how essential it is for anyone traveling to Hội An to carve out time for a meal at Son. This family-run restaurant is a beacon of "slow food" excellence. The moment you step inside, you're warmly welcomed by the owner and her delightful family, setting the tone for a lovely dining experience.

Our taste buds embarked on a remarkable journey with each dish. The Fisherman's Roll, a delightful seafood creation, redefined our expectations of fresh rolls. The Cassava Salad was an absolute revelation, a unique delight we have not seen elsewhere in Hoi An. The Grilled Pork Belly, cooked to perfection, was so succulent that no additional seasoning was needed. The Stuffed Squid, featuring a tantalizing tamarind sauce, perfectly balanced its richness with a fresh salad. And the Bahn Xeo crisp and paired with fresh herbs and sauce made for a lovely brunch meal the next day.

As for beverages, the "Australia" smoothie, a passionate blend of passion fruit and ginger, provided refreshing relief from the heat. Meanwhile, the Coconut Coffee, made with fresh coconut milk and coconut sugar, was an indulgent, sweet coffee lover's dream.

But the surprises didn't end there. The owner graciously treated us to a complimentary dessert, a banana ice cream that could easily stand as a paid treat.

Affordability, a delightful atmosphere, and the warmest hosts you'll ever meet—Son checks all the boxes for an unforgettable dining experience. Even as a repeat visitor to Hoi An, I regret not discovering this culinary gem earlier. If you're seeking an authentic, non-touristy delight in the old town, make a beeline for Son. Trust us, you...

Son Restaurant - where to start? We were recommended to come here from a food tour and gave it a go. First impressions is of a beautiful oasis: there is so much greenery and space to sit, relax, and have amazing food. There is a friendly 3-legged dog and a tiny playful kitten to entertain you while you wait for your meal. The food is where things get amazing.

We had delicious Nostalgic Spring Rolls, followed by Grilled Duck with Orange sauce and Cao Lau, along with one of the best Pina Colada's I've tasted. The duck was absolutely incredible, to the point where my partner cheekily asked if he could have the recipe and instead we were invited to do a cooking class to learn how to make 2 dishes of our choice! Of course we did, so two days later we were back before the restaurant opened for service to learn the secrets of great food.

The family were incredible, setting up the restaurant with all the ingredients we would need and giving us our own personal chef for the morning. He was incredibly patient and very thorough at demonstrating his techniques as well as what each ingredient was. We ended up with new skills on how to roll and cook Spring Rolls, and great new recipes to try when we travel home to Australia.

It was an absolute pleasure dining and cooking at Son Restaurant, and a highlight of our trip. We will be sending all our travelling friends here when they make their way to Hoi An, and cannot recommend visiting here enough. If not for the food, or amazing atmosphere, then for the gracious and...

A Culinary Gem in Hoi An

I recently had the pleasure of lunching at Son Hoi An, and it was an unforgettable experience that deserves high praise. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting, perfectly reflecting the charm of Hoi An itself.

We started our meal with the shrimp and orange salad, which was a delightful balance of fresh, juicy shrimp and tangy orange slices. The flavors were incredibly refreshing, and the salad was beautifully presented, setting the tone for the rest of the meal.

The highlight of our evening was undoubtedly the roasted duck with orange sauce. The duck was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin and tender, juicy meat. The orange sauce was the perfect complement, adding a subtle sweetness that enhanced the richness of the duck. It was clear that a lot of care and attention went into preparing this dish, and it did not disappoint.

Overall, Son Hoi An exceeded our expectations in every way. The service was attentive and friendly, making us feel right at home. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a truly exceptional lunch...

Our dinner was outstanding! We travel and eat out a lot, and it isn’t often that we experience restaurant food this sensational! The had spring rolls for starters, followed by Pho soup that was deeply flavorful, and served in a very hot clay bowl, keeping the soup hot. Our main was BBQd butter fish in banana leaf that was scrumptious (with pieces of onion, carrot, herbs, spices and not sure what else). So tasty, served with hot rice and delicious greens in a sauce. They even treated us to complimentary banana cake to top off the meal….maybe because it’s a New Year. We are staying in Hoi A for 8 days and I’ll definitely return to eat here again, because it’s not likely we’ll encounter the same loving quality elsewhere. This restaurant is outside of Old Town, but it’s so easy to fetch a ride for very little money; it’s worth it to get out of the town, where restaurants are full and chefs don’t even have to earn their clientele. You’ve got to eat here…the staff are so warm-hearted and the service is awesome. We ate the fish in banana leaf before I could snap a picture.

An absolute gem of a restaurant: It is a family-run restaurant with a very laid-back vibe. The half-outdoor location is lush with a lot of plants and furnished with a mix of different tables and chairs and an eclectic decoration. Something to keep in mind when you order: We were asked if we wanted to share the food, so all the meals came out of the kitchen one after another- others wanted to eat just one meal, and they received all meals at once. We loved the slow-food style, as is the restaurant’s motto! The restaurant is really family-friendly: our daughters greatly enjoyed playing with the owners’ cats, which seemed to delight everyone. The food was fresh, tasty, and affordable- real high-quality family food. We tried 10 different dishes- not one was a disappointment!
