Last week I finally went to Bep Vo Kitchen in Thao Dien. I have been meaning to try it for the past two years. It helps that I moved down the street in February (with an all of five-minute walk) but now I’m kicking myself for waiting all these months. Did I tell you tonight was my third dinner there since last week? Hence, this review. To begin with let me say how attractive the restaurant/property is. It has a very warm and stylish farmhouse feel with a large, plant-covered terrace on the side that is open to the main dining room. In fact, the menu pricing is utter incongruent with just how nice the ambience is. One would expect the prices to be double. Having said that I hope I’m not charged that the next time they see me coming (although I would still consider it a bargain) The menu is very large with something for everyone including cocktails, reasonably priced (For example: Marg-95,000). It's so reasonably priced you may find yourself, as I have, ordering way out of proportion with how hungry you actually may be. But then again: leftovers. The food is plated very attractively and portions are ample. Tonight, I had the small appetizer order of ribs (3 sizes), chicken skewers and Bun Bo Hue with two Sapporos (not in the Bun Bo, of course) and the bill was 380,000, with leftovers. Now who can turn that down? Service is prompt and professional. Shout-out to “Alice” for her good service and curiosity about where I was from (the answer is San Francisco). Even the music rocked! Was the Bun Bo Hue (70,000) authentic? How should I know? Why should I care? All I know is that it was so tasty I ate the entire thing (bowl excluded) despite all the other food on the table. Repeat after me: “I can’t believe I ate the whole thing!” (no upset stomach, though) -Baby Boomer humor, there. Anyhoo, if you live in TD and haven’t eaten here, stop dithering like I did and get your Heinie over there! If you don’t live in TD, it’s well worth the trip. Xuan Thuy is a few minutes away with all the after-dinner places to...
Read moreFood: They have both the traditional Vietnamese and what people would call “contemporary Vietnamese” dishes. Good for sharing or for ordering individual dishes when dining out with your friends. The portions are good. I would highly suggest the dry mixed rice vermicelli with chicken popcorns/shrimp topped with avocado sauce. If it’s not enough for you, you can order some more small chicken wings in one of the 3 flavor options to share with your friends. That’s what i usually do here. However, a person with a shellfish allergy would find a harder time choosing their dishes, although it applies to most Vietnamese restaurants are. 🤣 Atmosphere: They have both inside and outside sitting. I would prefer outside more but only during the night, cuz in the morning it can be a...
Read moreWe went here to have our brunch. And guess what, it was on Chef's Day and we couldn't thank Vo enough for a good time here.
What we ordered in the photos were Banh My, vegetarian signature sing roll and chicken roll ( Gosh they were big) and fried tofu.
I didn't expect my vegetarian/vegan choice came with rice so it was to the point we couldn't finish it all.
The roll as I remember was 55,000 and the tofu with rice wad 30,000.
For drinks, I order a Cafe with less milk/sugar and the waiter who was very fashionable didn't turn me down. It came perfectly for the taste that I desperately needed with the lime sorbet drink that my friend ordered. Absolutely...
