Phong Cua 1 - Crab Restaurant — Restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

I ate in this restaurant mang years ago and after covid 19, it still opened. Just one word about this restaurant: “amazing” About the procedure: you will first take a table and waiter/waitress will record table number for you, after that, you will choose fresh crab and order how to cook that crab (boiled, sauce, etc.) About the food: there are numerous kind of seafood you can choose: snail, crab, scrimp, fish and if you have a big stomach, you can other fried rice/noodle. Pricing: all price are are reasonable, except crab, I think crab is cheaper than its quality. All crabs are delicious and sauce is so perfect. Service: About this one, I think service is acceptable, because the restaurant is not professional and all employee almost student working part-time job. Have been coming for past 3 years. Initially crabs were cheap, but recently, I believe the prices have been adjusted upwards and the crabs were not as tasty. (could be a one off experience) Spent around VND770K for 2 small crabs, 2 oysters, oyster porridge, clams and a plate of vegetable.

U get to choose your crabs and pass it to the people who would then weigh the crabs and ask u how u want it cooked. Pls don't expect quality service. You are there for the food. Parking is also not free, unlike many establishments in HCMC.

On the whole, I think it is still acceptable if you want to have reasonable seafood with a Vietnamese atmosphere.

We went to Phong Cua and specifically pick out 3 big crabs with big claws. When it was sent to our table, it was very apparent that it wasn't the same crabs we picked out. They were smaller and the claws was much smaller. We told them the crabs we picked out was not same crabs. They took it back to kitchen and gave us 1 big claws and 2 small claws crabs. We were frustrated so we just ate them. A lady actually had told had told us while we pick out our crabs earlier to watch for that. This is a popular place so they should not resort to this.
