We local people entrust Ms. Nhung with almost all of our meals: breakfast, lunch, dinner & even friend gathering. Her main stream are: Bún Bò Sài Gòn (Huế’s beef soup with a Saigon twist), Phở bò Saigon (Pho in Saigon style), Bò kho (Saigon beef stew), Lẩu bò (Beef hot pot) & a whole variety of beef dishes. Previously a chef of large resort, she can also provide a full set menu which can fit anyone from anywhere, that takes a little bit of time & patience. Bún bò Sài Gòn is a Saigon edition of the original Bún Bò Huế (Hue beefsoup) that is less spicy & oily. Bún bò Sài Gòn is lighter, brighter in taste. The special shrimp paste in the soup is very subtle that can make you wonder “what made that catchy smell”. The serving bowl come which a variety of beef slices, rib, tendon & half bar of Huế’s finger size pork bologna. The accompanying salad includes water spinach, banana blossom, bean sprouts, Vietnamese coriander and basil leaves. The basil leaves should be picked individually and placed on top of the bowl. If you like spicy like the original from Huế, you can add a little chili paste to the beef noodle soup. Phở bò Sài Gòn differs from Hanoi pho in the variety of vegetables served with it and a little sweetness in the soup instead of the MSG taste that is common in Hanoi pho restaurants. A bowl of Saigon pho is usually decorated with green onions lower parts, finely chopped green onions leaves and slices of white onion. Nhung's pho has a wide variety of meat cuts, tendons and well braised beef ribs. When you are tired, stop by Fisherman for a sip of pho and you will be refreshed immediately! On Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, Nhung also has beef stew, served with bread or noodles. The beef stew is very special because it has the flavor of Chinese food, with the aroma of star anise, cinnamon and many other special spices. In my opinion, this is the most special dish that you should try at least once when visiting Fisherman. Families and groups of friends can enjoy Nhung's beef hotpot together, an upgraded version of Saigon beef noodle soup with the participation of pennywort, green cabbage, tofu skin and Chinese-style hotpot spices. The beef hotpot should be enjoyed with a little banana wine to make it a...
Read moreThe food and hospitality were fantastic. We had the spring rolls with pork and shrimp to start. This was followed by the Vietnamese stir fry noodles (seafood) and grilled whole snapper. Everything was delicious. The snapper was particularly good, with incredible flavour and grilled to perfection.
Moon was a beautiful host. We learnt a little about her brother and sister, whom together with Moon, run this family business. Moon takes great pride in making you feel welcome as soon as you enter their restaurant. Her English is very good, which we discovered she learnt from YouTube! However, regardless of language, it was the bright and positive attitude towards providing excellent service, is what made it a very good experience.
A hard-working family running a small business that makes customers feel very welcomed, and serving great value food.
Highly recommend this...
Read moreThis place is a gem. We gave it a try last night. It looks like 3 generations of a family run this place, and it is pure charm. The kitchen is super clean, the service fantastic, but the food is like fine dining. We ordered the steamed snapper wrapped in a banana leaf, and it was the best whole fish we have had between Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam, in the last 6 weeks. The dish was done to perfection, with an amazing flavor. They even stuffed some lemongrass into the whole fish. For an appetizer we ate the local scallops. They are a must try as well, prepared with fresh garlic, herbs and green onion. For a side dish we also ordered some morning glory, it was all just fantastic. We only have two nights left, but of course our dinners will be eaten there. The menu is extensive, and the ambience is just unassuming and charming. We were so hungry, I forgot to take pictures....
