This was a very well organized, informative and insightful exhibition into Albanian culture and history. I find museums to be boring after a while, but this one honestly had a good mix of textual, visual, audio and video exhibits to keep me engaged. Learnt a lot about Albanian culture (their dresses, weddings, tribes, history, etc) and got to see a lot of cool stuff (the attached pictures are just random clicks and there is plenty more to see than what is shown in them). Plus the fact that it's Enver Hoxxa's house makes it even more interesting to just walk around it in and see what the home of the man who has a prominent role in Albanian history looks like.

In June 2025, tickets were 500 lek (5 Euros) per person. There is a private parking right next to the museum where the guy honestly charged us based on vibes. Despite him speaking no English and us speaking no Albanian we reached an agreement of 3 euros for 5 hours which seemed fair. The road up to the museum gets quite narrow at times so if you're not a comfortable driver in narrow hilly streets, I don't recommend taking your...

We felt terrible and not welcome in this very important historical house of Albania.

The welcoming of the staff who represent this important house at the ticket office was very rude and unfriendly. They are smoking cigarettes inside. First they screamed the price very rude to us as a question, in the sense of if it would be too expensive for us or if we still want to buy tickets. We told them that we would like to have two tickets and we have put the money on the ticket office table in front of the lady, but then she screamed to us very rude:“money money where where?!”. We pointed to the money and said that it is there in front of her. The colleagues laughed about us very rude and talked in Albanien about us so that we could not understand. The visitors in front of us have left and did not want to enter the house because of this very rude behavior of the staff.

We are very sad about this because the house is very historical and nice, there is a lot to see inside with detailed descriptions and knowledge about Albanian culture, tradition and things you...

Came to this museum as the son of someone sentenced to death by the brutal dictator (for writing some poems). First thing I see is a propaganda video of Hoxha waving to a cheering crowd, idealising the dictator and mass murderer. the second exhibition is a song about a father who shouldn’t have ‘emigrated’. No further context is given. The reality is that those who attempted to ‘emigrate’ were executed or tortured. The family members, including children, were interned in camps where they greatly suffered and/or died. It is frankly disappointing and saddening to see this kind of carelessness with this important history. They should immediately replace the footage or they should clarify on both exhibitions that they are propaganda and how the actual...

A very interesting museum that combines history with culture. The rooms are set up like a traditional Gjirokastrian home, with costumes, furniture, and household items on display. What makes it special are the multimedia touches: video presentations and audible sessions with polyphonic music and recordings of local wedding ceremonies, which really bring the traditions of the region to life. The building itself stands on the site of Enver Hoxha’s birthplace, so it carries its own historical weight. Friendly staff and nice views from the terrace make it even more enjoyable. Definitely worth visiting when in Gjirokastër.

Ethnographic museums are my favourite type of museums whatever country I'm visiting. There's plenty of material here and lots of English information boards. Gives one an insight into the various rooms of a traditional house aswell as clothing types, footwear and many other things. Interesting to also learn about the process and events that would take place during a traditional marriage. There's a good display of the different types of traditional houses in Gjirokaster.
