Stone City Hostel lived up to and exceeded the hype. Easily my favorite hostel that I've stayed at anywhere. The accommodation was great. I spent nights in both the dorms and a private room, and would have been glad to spend more in either. Travelling solo the hostel has daily events that make it super easy to meet fellow travelers. The workers and volunteers are all such great people. Walter who operates the hostel must have had an answer or tip for the far too many questions I had about the area, and is an all around great guy. They packed a takeaway breakfast for an early expedition to Çajup and Lalucit (a remarkable hike across the valley that I strongly recommend), and the sit down breakfast in the morning was great. Couldn't have had a better experience and hope to return one day. Walter if you're hiring and need someone who can use excel, and talk to mountain shepherds please let me know.

Amazing Hostel. In perfect location, bit of trek uphill to get to but then you are set up for ur stay instead of hiking up/down everyday. Hostel has great vibes among everyone and great atmosphere between the shared spaces and incredible terrace that gets sun all day. Great recommendations when you arrive on where to eat/what to try and how to experience gjirokaster best. The free breakfast is one of the best you’ll get in any hostel by far and they normally have some sort of free social event everyday plus a few organised tours. Would come back to Gjirokaster just to stay at this hostel again.

Great hostel, from the bus station its a bit of an hike but then you get the good part of being centrally located regarding the sights. Owner is a great guy and does a free walking tours for the hostel quests which was a great experience. There are not any bigger supermarkets nearby, only minimarkets, so thats maybe a minor minus, but then again you wont be starving since there is a bunch of restaurant around the corner. All the facilities are in good shape and breakfast was nice, they have filter tap in the kitchen so you can get drinking water for free on the site.

Was really excited to stay at this hostel because of all the positive reviews, however when we got there they had cancelled our bookings for incorrect nights (despite us ringing to confirm twice) and simply laughed at us when we expressed our disappointment. We found out later from people in town that we were not the first people this had happened to. I think the owner is quite arrogant about having the busiest hostel in the city and doesn't care if he treats a few people badly.

In response to the owner, he did offer to help us with finding other accommodation by calling a hostel that was 100m up the road. I think a kinder option would have been to atleast walk us there as it's wouldn't have been that difficult. When we rang the hostel they cancelled the incorrect nights despite us calling them twice to confirm for the friday night, when we said we were not going to make it for the first night due to running late we offered to still pay for it on the phone as we knew it was late notice. We asked him why he never tried to contact us when as he says we didn't show up to which he said he didn't know how despite us booking through hostelworld where contact details were available. I should also mention he refused to refund us our deposit. In addition, when he says threaten with a bad review, we advised him we would comment exactly what occurred - which is what we've done. He was then quick to update hostelworld and cancel the booking which means were unable to review through that platform. I've contact hostelworld directly to Express my disappointment. As you can see from his response, the arrogance is clear with no apologies given for...

Would 100% stay here again when in Gjirokaster. I had a brilliant time||ROOMS: Dorm rooms are spacious with lockers underneath the beds. Each bed has a light and plug. The beds are super comfortable - I had the best nights sleep here of my entire trip. There is AC in the rooms too, and they are super clean.||FACILITIES: The bathroom is also very clean with hot, powerful showers. There is a kitchen for cooking should you need it as well as books and a laptop. There is a lovely outdoor terrance and indoor seating space for chilling. Wifi is good.||SERVICES: Breakfast is amazing - eggs, bread and spreads, fruit, cheese, home made cake. The hostel runs great tours including a walking tour and also a jeep tour to various interesting places in the surrounding areas (that would be impossible to get to alone) - viewpoints, waterfalls, Roman ruins, monasteries - it was an excellent tour!||STAFF: Brilliant, super helpful and super knowledgable. There’s a great, friendly vibe at this hostel.||LOCATION: Based in the old town, the hostel is a 20 min walk from the bus station. All of the main sites of Gjirokster can be walked...

Stayed here two nights. I've travelled 80+ countries, stayed in literally hundreds of hostels... This is easily one of the best. Along with all of the usual and expected things the mattresses are new and firm and comfortable, blankets thick, pillows fluffy, hot water boilers are new and above each shower so always warm (HOT) water. There is a propper sized living area, comfortable, with enough space. Dorms are nicely spaced not over crowded. Bunks are solid. Outside space is a propper sun trap with ample seating. Breakfast and the walking tour are both amazing, and free. Owners are knowledgeable super helpful and above all really friendly. By no means a party hostel but very sociable. They really do tick each and every box. Great location. Under bed lockers. Towels provided. Super clean. Secure. Great location. Socially and environmentally conscious. The cake at breakfast is delicious. WiFi is strong throughout. Wood fire inside on the colder days. Full kitchen with everything you need to cook. Books, games etc. Trying to find something to say for an improvement....but nothing...
