We are going on a cruise, stopping in locations around Australia. I have been looking at visitor centres in these locations to decide what we do on our shore days and not wanting to over pay for and do the scheduled excursions from the cruise company. Out of all the available centres it is Broome that has given us a great guide of what their town has to offer. Many seem to ignore the cruise tourism coming to their location completely and not even mention it on their websites. Yet Broome has a map, guides and all the information I need to prepare. In doing this research I have been shocked at how many smaller towns are not capitalising on having 2000 tourists drop by for 8 hours and leave again. Allowing the cruise company to get a percentage of the money spent as most people are booking shore tours. For other small towns recieving cruise passengers who might read this, as a result of having this ability to plan- it is currently Broome where I will be bringing the most money directly into businesses' of their town because I feel empowered to make decisions about what I want to do there in my one day...
Read moreHad a terrific introduction to Broome from the enthusiastic and cheerful Tegan at the Visitors Centre. She spent time with us telling us all about the attractions in an unhurried manner on a very busy day. She was very knowledgeable and full of good advice and tips to enjoy Broome. Tegan also booked us a tour to Cape Leveque which was excellent and highly recommended with Adams Pinnacle Tours. Also discovered an overflow camp being trialled by the Council providing 3 free nights at the Surf Life Saving Club car park which really helped us enjoy our stay as we couldn’t get a booking. Was the only reason we stayed in Broome really so credit to the Council for putting this on and the friendly Rangers who helped us understand the process and came around to check it was being followed. Thank you Tegan for your help and Broome...
Read moreI arrived at the visitor centre at 3.45pm near closing time and patiently waited my turn to be served as two women were discussing the days takings close to me, 2 other ladies were serving other visitors. After approximately 5 minutes one of the two women came behind me to return a book so I decided to take my chance to ask about any other potage taps in the area but was informed the only one was outside the building ( the pressure was woeful ) or at Caravan parks, I informed the two women we were fully self contained in a motorhome and just commented on free camping and was told in no uncertain terms there was no free camping in the area and it was an hour away. Oh I got a “Sorry” , it might be fitting to remember we are still visitors who spend money in the area. We drove the hour to...
