We walked the Cape Byron Walking track circuit, starting at the Palm Valley carpark. The track up to the most easterly point and the lighthouse hugs the coastline. The track is fully paved and concreted up to the Lighthouse, with steps and some steep inclines. There are many places to stop and catch your breath if needed. We experienced incredible views and we lost count of the amount of whales frolicking in the waters, near and a far. There is a small cafe at the top and toilets as well. On the way back we continued on to the Tallow Ridge track. This track is not paved and whilst the views are not out to the ocean, the rainforest is beautiful to walk through. There are stairs, as well as flat bush tracks. This part of the track could be a little slippery in the wet. A much quieter track and a beautiful walk. Just make sure you park in a designated parking spot as even before 7am, there was a parking ranger there slapping tickets on cars parked illegally... also, there's a sign that says "most eastern point of mainland Australia, but you can keep walking down on the track to get to and what feels like more of an eastern platform. Read moreWe parked at wategos on Marine parade.. Was $5 an hour with max of 4 hours but if you do 4hours only $15. Walked from there along Beach walkway and continued on to the Cape Byron Walking track up to the light house. We walked from here up and looked over the other side (you can do a loop) but we came back the same way so we could do little wategos track out to cape byron lookout on the way back.
