WATEGOS BEACH - MUST SEE

Wategos Beach is a stunning beach located in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia. It is known for its natural beauty, pristine sands, crystal-clear waters, and its scenic setting against the backdrop of the Cape Byron Lighthouse. Here's some information about Wategos Beach:

Location: Wategos Beach is situated to the east of the Cape Byron headland, approximately 2.5 kilometers (1.6 miles) from Byron Bay's town center. It can be accessed by taking Lighthouse Road and then turning onto Marine Parade, which leads to the beach.

Natural Beauty: Wategos Beach is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. The crescent-shaped beach is surrounded by lush vegetation and offers panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean. The picturesque setting, with the iconic Cape Byron Lighthouse perched on the headland, creates a truly idyllic atmosphere.

Swimming and Surfing: Wategos Beach is popular for swimming, thanks to its sheltered position and generally calm conditions. The gentle waves and clear waters make it suitable for people of all ages and swimming abilities. It's important to note that there are no lifeguards on duty at Wategos Beach, so it's advisable to exercise caution and be mindful of any potential hazards.

Surfing at The Wreck: At the northern end of Wategos Beach, there is a surf break known as The Wreck. This spot offers more consistent waves and attracts surfers looking for a challenging surf session. It's named after the remains of the shipwrecked vessel, the SS Wollongbar, which is located just offshore and can sometimes be seen during low tide.

Walking and Picnicking: Wategos Beach is an excellent starting point for scenic walks. The Cape Byron Walking Track begins at Wategos and leads up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse, providing breathtaking views along the way. There are also picnic facilities available, allowing visitors to enjoy a leisurely picnic while taking in the stunning coastal scenery.

Whale Watching: Wategos Beach offers fantastic opportunities for whale watching during the annual migration season, which typically occurs from May to November. Humpback whales, in particular, can often be spotted as they pass by Cape Byron, making their journey along the east coast of Australia.

Parking and Facilities: There is limited parking available at Wategos Beach, so it's advisable to arrive early, especially during peak times. Facilities include public toilets and showers for visitors' convenience.

Wategos Beach is renowned for its beauty, serenity, and the chance to enjoy a range of coastal activities. Whether you're looking to swim, surf, go for a scenic walk, have a picnic, or simply relax and soak up the coastal ambiance, Wategos Beach offers a picturesque escape in the...

You know you have one of Australia s prime spots of real estate behind you, and might expect a whole bunch of snobs, but even though the place literally breathes money, the old hippies (now seriously cashed up on very shiny Harley Davidsons, yet still wearing their ageless bandanas) smile at you fatherly and the yogis on the beach are really there for their practice and are not self-indulged. There is a general vibe of brotherly laissez faire and a private yet welcoming hue to this place that I have come...

Great beach, good for Surfers, and lots of people around, don't expect to be alone on this beach, it won't happen. Unfortunately we went when high tie was in and there wasn't much space to lay down as most of them where already taken by other people. Be ready as well to tour for a good 10 minutes to find parking we went there probably in the busiest day of boxing day.. anyway it is a beach I would like to come back when it...

Wategos Beach, Byron Bay, NSW We were keen to go back to Byron Bay after our last holiday there, so on our way from Sheraton Mirage to Port Macquarie we spent a few hours surfing at Wategos Beach. Great location for a swim or walk along the beach at low tide. It’s a busy location usually so parking can be difficult. Raes on Wategos is also right there by the beach. #WategosBeach #ByronBay

Gorgeous beach. We walked from Lawson street via the coastal path... we made the mistake of taking a pram, which was a bit challenging given the hills and steps! But it's worth it, and there were beautiful views along the way.

Gorgeous spot for a swim! Clean, family friendly and easy to move around. No long paths to the beach. Parking is a problem though so you need to be there early. Water is just a treat though!
