Cairns Central Shopping Centre — Attraction in Cairns City

Cairns Central is the main shopping mall for Cairns.

Essentially a rectangle it houses shops, restaurants, banks, JP service, supermarkets, cinema and occasional small shows such as a petting zoo for children and small school holiday productions. Cairns train station is located directly next to it linked by walkways. Local buses also arrive and depart here.

Central Mall offers three levels of car parking and four entry points for cars. It’s easy to access by walking and wheelchairs too. It’s location is ideally situated being a 10 minute walk or 5 minute drive from the lagoon and Esplanade.

It’s bright and light, kept extremely clean and tidy by the hard working cleaning staff. Its absolutely spotless due to this team. It’s easy to walk around having thankfully two wide aisles and it’s very difficult to get lost! Signage is excellent and the toilets plentiful, generally well kept and located in sensible areas.

The diversity of shops is reasonable. It’s particularly aimed at 12-18 yo young women with a plethora of clothes shops catering to this age.

It’s eating area, both walking and seating availability, becomes full very quickly not helped by narrow walking routes between the main concourse and a major exit. Its usually extremely noisy too. Unnecessary music is played throughout the mall all day especially an issue when individual shops have their own. This cacophony of noise is extremely off putting for all the shoppers.

There are some seating available as well as a small playground on its 1st floor. The seating availability is limited and the owners should increase these.

One aspect that stood out to me was the presence of both popular chain stores and local businesses. This blend of options adds variety and gives shoppers the chance to discover local products and support small businesses.

The dining options at Cairns Central are also plentiful, offering a range of cuisines to satisfy any craving. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a sit-down meal, the food court and restaurants within the shopping centre provide ample choices.

I appreciated the convenience of Cairns Central, as it is centrally located in the heart of the city. It is easily accessible, either on foot or by public transport, making it a convenient destination for both locals...

The children's play area could be more spaced out. Too many kids in a tight space can cause problems especially when other parents have a whinge that their kids can't get the whole play area to their own precious ones self. Note to one mother I had the joy of dealing with today. Next time you want to throw one sided accusations to other parents that their children are supposedly too close in a tight space and your kid's having a whinge pointing randomly to other kids saying she got stood on, make sure you talk to the other parents first if you've got an issue with our kids rather than mouthing off saying that there are bullies at the playground and pointing rudely at parents and walking off in a huff. For the record, love, my kid was nowhere your kid so I don't appreciate the false accussation that my kid pinched your kid. I was watching my kid the whole time. She didn't pinch anyone. So take your drama queen kid and yourself somewhere...
